| Indiana Firms to Pay for New, Defense Plants in Five Years!
re immmne BY ROGER BUDROW
ALTHOUGH A NUMBER OF INDIANA DEFENSE] plants are being built with Government money and there-| fore owned hv the Government, many industries are using’| their own funds to expand for defense production. But these| ndustries that are using their own money receive encour-| agement from the Government in the way of tax relief. The Government grants what are called “certificates of necessity.” These mean that the manufacturer may. sub-| tract from his tax bill the cost of the new plant in a period] of five years. Formerly the cost of new plants was amor-| tized over 20 years or more. The purpose of this is to pre-| vent the manufacturer from having an unpaid-for factory |
