As Alice Marble tells it in her jown words: “I'd rather sing well than do anything else in the world.” And that is, in no small measure, the reason the Glamor Girl of Sport forsook the amateur ranks to embark on a professional tour with ‘Mary Hardwick, Bill Tilden and {Donald Budge. They will be here April 14 to play an exhibition match at the Butler Fieldhouse under the sponsorship of the Auxiliary to the Indianpolis Orphans’ Home. La Marble, be it known, has always wanted to be a concert star. Money from the tour will help her continue her lessons under Dr. Mario Marafioti, California voice teacher and for 25 years the throat specialist for the Metropolitan Opera. Has she ambitions to sing in Grand Opera? That's a big order, opines Alice, and takes years of hard work. However, if Dr. Marafioti thinks there are possibilities in that direction, Alice plans to give it the same sort of hard practice she poured into tennis. “What aspiring young singer,” she asks, “hasn't dreamed of singing at the Metropolitan?”

At the suggestion of national officers, the Indianapolis League is making a survey of members’ backgrounds, education and special talents. Mrs. Wilson Mothershead is calling all for individual interviews to be Wednesday at the 38th Street Branch of the Merchants’ National Bank. The completed ref= erence cards for each member will become a part of the Junior League Index, which will give full information concerning the national organization's 35,000 members. Present and future calls for volunteers in community service will then be filled from this master file. Other members of Mrs, Mothershead's committee, Mesdames John Collett, George Ziegler, Louis Huesmann, Jere= miah L. By MRS. ANNE CABOT A cherub in a blue and white striped cape and hood. That’s what the baby will look like in this soft, cuddly garment. Of course, if the brand-new infant in your family is a girl, make the cape in pink and white. It's just the right weight for chilly days when the baby has to go out for his airing in the perambulator, And for special visits to the relatives, it will make him leok like the glamorous ‘“star-let” he is! Nimble fingers can quickly make this enchanting little hooded cape in a few hours. It's done in plain knitting and purling—the blue ribs give a pleated effect and the turned back edge of pale blue on the hood makes a cunning little face seem even lovelier! For complete knitting instructions on how to make this little cape, (Pattern 5110) send 10 cents in COIN, YOUR NAME and ADDRESS and the PATTERN NUMBER to Mrs. Anne Cabot, The Indianapolis
