The WOMEN'S AUXILIARY
DEAR JANE JORDAN--1 am a girl of 21 and have heen married four months. My husband is 24. When we first were married mv husband said we would live with his mother, father and sister for about two months, then we would move to ourselves. But we are still there and life is miserable for me. His family is jealous and selfish. They resent my being there and are trying to get me so tisgusted that T will leave my husband. Every time I mention moving out his father gets sick and his mother has heart attacks, My husband buys the groceries, coal, pavs the loan and gives his sister money. As for me, T have to do without, He never does things about loving and comforting me as he did before we were married He isn't a companion or a pal at all, but is cross and faultfinding. I've tried to talk to him about bringing his money home to me and letting me pay the board and the bills at home, but he doesn’t see my point. Should I put up with this or leave him? WORRIED.

Answer—Now you know that vou never, never should have gone to live with vour htishand’s family. I know of few situations more difficult for a young wife. When your husband promised to move put within twe months, vour cue was to postpone your marriage two more months, It is a lot easier to avoid a situation than te escape from it after you are plunged into it. Besides, a man is more eager to please a woman before she has signed on the dotted line, After the ceremony he is apt to feel more complacent You have a right to agitate for your own home, regardless of the heart attacks. but I do not believe you should expect to gnanage vour husband's money. Many men do not like to hand over their wages to their wives although most of them will consent to an allowance if they start their married lives on that basis, I do not know how vou can force your husband te found a home for vou now. Already the two of vou have grown apart to a distressing extent, Complaining and crving won't help, but you can bring a slow, steady pressure to bear. You can try to sel! him on the idea by picturing the charms of a home of his own. You can win him over to vour side by using the same graces that made him want to marry vou in the first place. You'd better start trying right away, too, for the longer you live with his family, the less you will be able to influence him.
