The Rev. Mr curate, the Rev bottom, both born in England, wrote to their natives country for information concerning Mothering Sunday and have made their church one of the first West of the Alleghanies to observe it.

Found Old Recipe

Rev. Mr. Heckingbottom found the recipe for the simnel cakes in an old English cook book. The cakes are wrapped in green and yellow paper and the packages decorated with violet seals. Violets are the symbol of mother love. And in England. where spring is milder than in Indianapolis, little children gather them in the fields and give them to their mothers on mothering Sunday. Both children and adults give presents of various kinds to their mothers, remember departed mothers at the altar and also bring special offerings Mothering Sunday takes its name from the Epistle, read the fourth Sunday in Lent in Episcopal and Catholic Churches, in which heaven is spoken of as Jerusalem, the mother of the Christian family.
