Washington Hopes Great Lakes Ice Will Be Broken Earlier This Year

AIRPLANES WERE FLYING OVER THE GREAT LAKES this week trying to find out how soon the boats can get through the ice. It so happens that this is rather important this year. The great steel mills in Indiana’s Calumet district and the “Little Ruhr Valley” in Ohio and Pennsylvania are using up vast quantities of iron ore in armament manufacturing.
