RESCUES SPANISH YOUTH
Return Means Death, Says| Lawyer, After Stowaway Tells Story.
| NEW YORK, March 14 (U. P.). | | Pedro Garcia Rodriguez, 17, still | may escape the firing squad in| | Spain. He was assured a stay of execu- | tion, so to speak, when Federal Judge Mortimer W. Byers yesterday signed a writ of habeas corpus or[dering the youth brought before | {him today. The writ was obtained just in| time, it appeared. The Spanish | liner was scheduled to start its re- | turn trip yesterday. It will have to wait until this afternoon, however, unless Capt [ Gabrio Rosello releases Rodriguez | before that time.
Mr. Fleischman told Judge Byers that Rodriguez’ return to Spain would “mean certain death for [| him.” He said the boy was held { prisoner illegally, that he had been denied examination before a board of special inquiry, as provided by jthe U. S. immigration regulations, | and that Capt. Rosello had failed | {to inform authorities here that he | had a stowaway. At the ship, which docked here | | yesterday, guards refused a news- | paperman permission to go aboard | and see Rodriguez. | “We've got every entrance and | “No one | 1

REPORT 1-HOUR SKIN VEST FOR PREGNANCY
CHICAGO, March 14.—A skin | test which tells within less than an hour whether a woman is going to | become a mother was announced here by Dr. Frederick H. Falls, Dr. V. C. Freda and Dr. H. H. ously developed tests for early preg- | nancy take from 18 hours to two days, they said. The widely used Ascheim-Zondek test takes two days for a verdict, | In the test developed at the Uni versity of Illinois, colostrum is used. This is a watery liquid secreted in the breasts during pregnancy until milk formation starts {after the baby is born. A tiny {amount of this is injected by hypodermic needle into the skin of the | | forearm. If the woman being | tested is pregnant there is no re- | action. If she is not pregnant, a reddish area of one or two inches diameter appears within an hour around the injection point, disappearing within about five hours.
