Times Special
CAMP SHELBY, Miss., March 11. —The 38th Army Division, including officers and men from Indiana, brushed up its military gear to turn out for:‘them .first detailed inspection this week since entering Federal ;service. Maj. Gen. Robert H. Tyndall, corinandant, said he hoped by the end-of the week to report on the condition of the division, which has ‘had only five weeks’ training. Meanwhile, it was reported that a mild wave of bronchial colds that had’ confined a number of men to the quarters ts subsiding with no serious cases reported. Indications were that Army life was ‘agreeing ‘with Hoosiers at Camp Shelby, in at least one respect. The average gain in weight, officers said, ranged from five to 15 pounds. The Surgeon General's office in ‘Washington informed Camp Shelby official sthat 127 additional nurses will be assigned to the camp within the next three months to check on soldiers’ health. There are now 188 nurses at the camp.
'Sergt. What' Busted
After a few brief days as line sergeant, the mascot of Company D, 113th Medical Regiment, found it tos hard to remain on good behaviar, romped Into the company mess hall and scattered utensils about. . In military fashion the chow- spitz was “busted,” ‘and it's “Corporal What” again. Corp. What is, Incidentally, the twin sister of Capt. Al, Company A mas-
cot. 2 ” ”
Continue Cycle Activity
Six Indianapolis men in the 38th Division Signal Company, members of a motorcycle club before they entered the Army, took their cycles ‘with them to camp. On week-ends, they motor to the Gulf Coast. They are: Sergt. Major Anderson and Privates William Walker, Dale Smith, William Bailey, Willlam Ward and Ted Chamberlain. ” # ”
Ask Paved Walks
To prove that there is a lighter side to Army life, ‘a group of men from Headquarters Company, 152d Infantry, led by Spokesman Private Karl Cochrane of Indianapolis, asked the commander, Capt. Delbert Cornwell, also of Indianapolis, if the company street would have sidewalks soon, He said yes. Then the privates said they'd like to put in a respectful request that the sidewalks be concrete. Puzzled, the officer inquired why.
