KILL ACTION ON LOW AUTO TAGS

Hendricks Says Idea of 1-to-150 Plates for Legis‘lators Is Ridiculous.

After only one speech, the Senate yesterday killed a House resolution providing for special automobile license plates for the 150 members of the General Assembly. Senator Thomas Hendricks (D. Indianapolis) asserted that the idea of having license plates numbering from 1 to 150 made for the legislators was “ridiculous,” and he asked that the resolution be killed. His motion carried by voice vote. ' The bill raising the standards and qualifications for the granting of licanses to operate beauty parlors was

passed by the Senate by a vote of 33. to 8. The hill failed to pass Wednesday for lack of a constitutional majority.

Regulate Boats Other House bills passed yester-

day by the Senate would: Give the Conservation Depart-

: ment authority to regulate use of

‘ motor boats on lakes on state-owned land and prohibit the use of any motor boat of greater than three and one-half horsepower on lakes which have been constructed with Federal funds. Legalize the reorganization of all financial institutions by the State Banking Department since 1933. Provide that legal notices in cities of the first class must be published in a daily or weekly newspaper, published at least one day each week and which have been in existence for at least five years. Fix two years as the statutory period for the collection of overcharges or undercharges on railfoad freight rates. The Senate also passed a House- * approved resolution urging enforcement of Indiana laws concerning pbscene literature.

ib: May End Bridge Row

" ‘A bill designed to end the Toll Bridge Commission controversy was to be recommended out for passage today in the Senate. Originally it called for abolishing the commission. Rewritten before being sent to the Senate, it now would place 0h commission under the suervision of the Highway Department. Trouble involving the commission began last August when injunction

suits were filed by the Indianapolis |

Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Farm Bureau and the Hoosier Motor Club to prevent the commission from paying $945,000 for a New Harmony

bridge.

U. S. CURB ON OTHER ENVOYS INDICATED

" WASHINGTON, March 7 (U. P)) —The State Department's restriction of activities of Italian diplomats and consular officers led to speculation today that similar retaliatory action may be planned for envoys of other nations. Increasing restrictions on American envoys in Axis or Axis-dom-

inated nations affords the United

States what some believe to be ample excuse for clamping on similar restrictions here.
