90 Per Cent of Room at 20th Home Show Sold Or Reserved.

More than 90 per cent of available exhibit space at the 20th anniversary Indianapolis Hote Show has been sold or reserved, J. Frank Cantwell, managing director, announced today.

“Tremendous interest

is evidenced by the mailing of 5000 brochures’ to manufacturers of

| building equipment and’ materials

all over the country,” he said. “Exhibitor interest this year is higher than in any previous show because our nation is more alert to home building than it has been for a decade. Increased payrolls and

| employment will add billions of dollars for retail sales. J will put on a show that will serve

Therefore we

the public to the fullest degree.” Again as last year, three houses ranging in price from $4000 to

$11,000 will “form ® the centerpiece

around © which « the Indianapolis: Garden Clubs will create gardens to blend with the homes.

FOREST MANOR LOTS IMPROVED

1 Houses Already Occupied In Subdivision on | North Side.

One - of Indianapolis’ blooming subdivisions is Forest Manor Estates, an area being developed by M. E. and M. G. Gerdenich. This section is unique in that besides being near two grade schools, Numbers 1 and 73, each lot is completely improved including gas and water mains, streets and curbings, and landscaping. This means that while each lot may cest a little more than an unimproved lot, in the long run home builders will save Barrett Law assessments. Forest Manor Estates is bounded by 35th and 36th Sts. and by Forest Manor Ave, and Janet Drive. Onethird of the 59 lots have been sold. Eleven homes in the addition already are occupied and two more are being built, including 3522 Janet Drive which is typical of the area’s homes. Open By Appointment Although this house has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald W. Updike it gan be seen by appointment with Mr. Clerdenich who will be at 3526 Janet Drive Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. It is Colonial in style with red brick on the first floor and white siding on the second. The first floor consists of an enclosed hall

Realtors’ Meeting to Scans Housing Needs Is Monday}

The first step in a co-operative effort by various real estate interests to meet a serious housing shortage here will be taken at a closed meeting: Monday night in the Athenaeum. The meeting was called by Earl B. Teckemeyer, president of the Indianapolis Real ‘Estate Board, after it was shown by a WPA survey that less than 1 per cent of all modern Indianapolis dwellings fit for habitation are vacant.

In view of the thousands of employees expected to come here within. the next year to fill jobs at new and expanding defense plants, this figure is far below .other cities’ of the same size, according to the Twentieth Century Fund’s national residential vacancy report.

Fear U. S. Intervention

If something is not done, Indianapolis realtors fear, either the Government will be forced to step in and establish a local housing project, or defense industries will have to locate in some other city where housing is available for employees. Representatives of the Real Estate

| Board, the Home Builders Associa-

tion, the Chamber of Commerce, the Federal Home Loan Bank and other financial institutions, and the Apartment Owners Association are to Rring to the meeting information on the: 1. Estimated influx of labor. 2. Number of new residences finished and unsold.
