Dante Gives Self Key

Whe

Dante, the magician now appearing at English’s, went

around to Mayor Sullivan’s office to. receive the key to the city yesterday, it developed that neithér the Mayor nor his secretary, Russ

Campbell,

could find the ceremonial key.

That didn’t stump a

magician, of course. The bearded prestidigitator promptly conjured up "one of his own, complete with name, and calmly accepted it from

Mr. Sullivan.

NEIGHBORHOODS Success of Serial Thrillers Brings Class A Actors to Casts

/

By DAVID MARSHALL

IT WASN'T SO LONG AGO that the self-respecting movie male would 100k down his nose at serials, but since the huge box-office success of some of the thrillers things have been different. Now the industry has dignified the serial by dubbing it a “chapter play” and by signing Class A actors for the major roles. Two such serials are shown each week at the Paramount and at the Fountain

Square. Tomorrow and ¥riday nights “Sky Raiders” opens at the Fountain Square. Starred is Billy Healup, who hag stayed in Hollywood despite the break-up of the “Dead End Kids.” Featured with him are Robért Armstrong and Donald Woods. The same nights at the Paramount those same “Dead End Kids” 'are in ‘Junior G-Men” a story of spy activities in the United States. Saturday at the matinee and first evening perfprmances the Fountain Square will have the first city showing of “White Eagle,” which stars Buck Jones. Then on Sunday and Monday the Paramount shows | “The Green Archer,” an adaptation of one of Edgar Wallace's great mystery stories. This stars ‘Victor Jory. = » tJ THE PARKER'S remaining family nights tonight and tomorrow are given over to a firstshowing for that house and a revival. “Raffles,” starring Olivia deHavilland and David Niven is there for the initial appearance while “Varsity Show” comes back. s

tJ PART OF THE remodeling and redecorating going on at the Strand includes a new “easy-on-the-eyes” screen which lets the sound come right through—it’'s woven of fine wire mesh. oN »n £1 “NIGHT TRAIN,” originally booked to close last night at the Esquire, is being held through tonight along with “Haunted Honeymoon.” The new show opening tomorrow, then, will be “BEscape” and “1,000,000 B. C.” (Which is sorne escape.) a 2 EARL CUNNINGHAM says that

Fabien Sevitzky' has been reengaged as guest conductor on. the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s summer concert series. Mr. Sevitzky, who made his first appearance in the Canadian city last summer, will conduct concerts in Montreal next July 3 and 10. In accepting the invitation, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra conductor made the following comment: “It is significant proof of the value of music in a community that countries which are at war expand, rather than curtail, their musical activities for the sake of the morale of their people. They know the availability of great music in a community is a necessity, not a luxury.”

” # »

Mr. Sevitzky is now taking his customary brief mid-season vacation, and the concerts of Friday afternoon and Saturday evening will be conducted by the orchestra's founder and conductor emeritus, Ferdinand Schaefer. Next week Mr. Sevitzky will return to the podium to conduct five concerts: the annual series of four afternoon concerts in the city high schools, and an all-Brahms program at the Murat on Feb. 21. The high school concerts will be held on the four days beginning Feb. 17 at Technical, Manual Training, Washington and Shortridge High Schools, respectively. They will begin at 1:45 p. m., and the programs will be identical: “The Star Spangled Banner”; the -Over-

Your care in selecting food for your family is wasted if you lose the essential vitamins and minerals by improper cooking. That’s why Electric cooking is health cooking. Food cooked in its natural juices retains healthful elements that are boiled out by other cooking methods. For instance, when vegetables are prepared the Electric way, three times as much mineral content is retained as when vegetables are boiled in large quantities of water. It costs less, too.
