ARMY BOMBER WRECK FOUND.

No Hope Held for Any of Seven Aboard; Vultures Circle Scene.

MORTON, Wash., Feb. 4 (U.P.). —An Army searching party today goes to the wreckage of a twinmotored bomber, missing since Jan. 16, with seven men. There was no hope that any survived. Harry Studhalter, 32, and Tom Harper, 30, woodsmen, said they sighted . the wreckage on Huckleberry Mountain, in the foothills of Mt. Rainier, through binoculars. Vultures were circling the wreck, fragments of which were scattered over a wide area, they said. They believed all aboard were dead. The plane was on its way to Muroc Dry Lage, Cal, to practice. bombing. ' The Army would not acknowledge “Officially that the bomber had crashed, and refused to let anyone go near it in advance of the searching party, possibly because the plane was equipped with a Norden bombsight, a guarded military secret. Had any of the seven survived the crash, observers said, they could have walked to civilization. If they were injured, they would have died of exposure in the frigid mountain weather.

Rumors going the rounds of the radio studios are that some sort of a settlement in' the ASCAP-BMI dispute is to be effected about the middle of the month or shortly thereafter. However, this depart ment has received nothing from either headquarters which would fit in with such reports. os o Ann Sklepovich, 13-year-old Gary, W. Va. girl who was the Cinderella of the President's Birthday Ball in Washington last week, will relate her experiences on tonight's We, the People program, 8 o'clock, WFBM. Ann, it will be remembered, was the intended victim of a hoax by an older Ann Sklepovich brother. She thought she had been invited to Washington by the

" | President to visit the White House

but when she reached the capital she learned the truth. However, the President heard of her disappointment and made Ann his special guest. Whereupon she proceeded to steal the spotlight from some of Hollywood’s best known glamour girls and other notables. 8 # 8 Mickey Rooney, who has something of a reputation as. a movie actor, now stands revealed as a composer of serious music. Next Sunday on the Ford Sunday Evening Hour the Ford orchestra is to play two parts of Mickey's symphonic suite, “Melodante.” Mickey surprised even his Hollywood intimates by his development from a swing enthusiast to a serious composer. 2 tJ ” Joyce Jordan-Girl Interne, broadcast. week days at 1:15 p. m. over WFBM, went into its fifth year with yesterday’s performance. The program has had four leading ladies in its four years on the air. Rita Johnson, Helen Claire, Elspeth Eric and Anna Shepherd, the current star. ” ” 8 A new sports feature, “Sportscope,” to be heard Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10:15 p. m. made its debut last night on WFBM. It’s a program of general sports news. Lee Harris is the announcer. ” ” ” Bob Hawk did an unusual thing on his Take It or Leave It program Sunday night when he recalled a contestant who had failed on the final question. The gentleman had selected important dates and was given a five-year leeway. He named every one correctly except the last when he missed on the date of the Chicago fire. He was so accurate with the others that his failure ‘was rather surpris-

g. When the program was almost over Bob recalled the contestant and this time he named correctly the date when Edison discovered the incandescent lamp. Bob's reasoning was that the Chicago fire probably could not be considered historically important, and his decision to recall the gentleman went over big with the Atlanta audience. ; A few weeks ago a similar thing happened when a contestant was unable to link the number 98 with Tom Harmon, the Michigan football star. There was some criticism on that one and on the next program Bob announced that he was turning the cash over to the contestant. 2 8 8 - Ethel Barrymore's 40th anniversary as a stage star is to be celebrated tonight in a special NBCBlue broadcast from 10:30 to 11 p. m. Brothers John and Lionel, from Hollywood, are to do a bit of reminiscing. Arthur Hopkins will be master of ceremonies ‘and ‘Alexander Woollcott also will appear on the program as “best friend and severest critic.”
