Licenses for All Persons 60 and Over.
GC. R. Gutermuth, acting head of the State Fish and Game Department, today claimed that issuing of fishing, hunting | and trapping licenses free to all persons 60 and ovér would reduce the department's income by more than 15 per cent and restocking activities by 25 per soy issued the statement in connection with a bill now before the
Senate and passed by the House
| that would make such a provision, | and said he would urge all mem-
pers of conservation clubs to take an active part in helping defeat] the bill. Mr. Gutermuth said that a survey of records shows that more than 15| per cent of all permits now sold are sold to persons 60 and over.
Hold Club Contracts
He pointed out that the Fish and Gédme Department's income consists solely of the proceeds of the sale of permits and of Federal funds allotted on the basis of the sale of permits, if the income of the Fish and Game Division is! cut as much as one-fourth, Mr. Guter ‘muth said, the fish and game restocking would be cut proportionately, and that probably the Depar tment would be unable to renew some contracts with conservation clubs. «More than 800 conservation clubs in all parts of the State have built
brooders for pheasant and quail at |}
a cost of about $100 asbrooder,” he said. “To repay them, the Conservation Department makes contracts with them to pay the club 75 cents for each bird raised and reléased by the club. “The clubs use this money in many Wways—some to build and maintain clubhouses, some to build

| The Department, also makes contracts with clubs owning fish rearihg ponds to pay them stated amounts for so many fingerlings released. No individual collects this money—it must go to - the club treasury and be spent as a club. | “This program of aid to clubs would have to be curtailed, as well as the restocking that is done from state game farms, “Not only that, but the money that now comes tc the state for wildlife work through the PittmanRobertson Act would be proportionately curfailed. ‘This money is allotted to states on the basis of the number of fishing, hunting and {rapping permits sold, and any drop in the sales of these would cut Infiana’s share, now amounting to many thousands of dollars.”
