Cathedral’s Irish go after their 10th victory of the season and their sixth in a row this evening at Noblesville. Since losing to Shortridge, the Shamrocks have beaten Howe, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Silver Creek and Broad _ Rippl-. Coach Joe Harmon probably will send out Ott Hurrle, Kenneth Geiman, Al. Obergfell, Leo Barnhorst and Jim O’Neal as his starters.

Dear Backboard: I am still squawking about the Manual gym. I think that if mention is given it once in
awhile, our city fathers might do’
something. Manual never will have a team to compare with those of other city schools unless the Redskins schedule stronger competition. And no strong team will play the Redskins on a home-and-home basis, for which they scarcely can be blamed. So let’s put the heat on to get rid of that bandbox. MANUAL ROOTER.

Dear Backboard: I read Gumdrops’ letter about the city tournament and I think he is slightly prejudiced because Shortridge never has had a city championship. I suppose that if Shortridge had been victorious, the champ wouldn't be inferior. T agree, however, that the hottest team wins, but the best team is the hottest team since the winner usually plays three games over three days. It seems improbable that a team can be hot for three days and still be inferior to the other ctiy teams. One of the greatest advantages’

Hockey Bruins Win 141in Row

The Boston Bruins stretched their current unbeaten streak to 14

rent surge, marked the first time

feated Chicago on home ice and

the leading Toronto Maple Leafs. Chicago drew within one goal of tying the score midway in the third period but Boston's Woody Dumart scored what proved to be the winning goal less than a minute later.

CHICAGO, Jan. 20 (U.P.).—Willie Hoppe, the master billiardist who returned to competition to defend his title after a serious attack of influenza, today engages his second
opponent in the world’s three-
cushion tournament after breaking two contest records in ‘his first ap-
pearance. He took Herb Peterson of St. Louis the jumps last night to defeat the newcomer to the billiards “world series,” 50 to 15, in 32 innings. Thus he tied the 1941 tournament record for best game and broke the previous records for time elapsed and low opponent's score, In addition, he scored a high run of nine, close to the tournament record of 11 held by Jake Schaefer Jr. of Chicago. Hoppe started. slowly, scoring only two points in the first nine imnings, just matching his opponent. He said he felt weak and the glare of the. low-hung lights bothered his eyes. Then he recovered his poise and began scoring while still holding Peterson almost scoreless. In the 19th inning Hoppe ran nine. The best Peterson could do was one run of three; in the 10th inning. This. was Hoppe’s 21st consecutive victory in world tournament play and placed him second in the 1941 standings behind three veterans who were tied with seven victories each and no defeats.
