is coming. Ever try cake toasted? Sponge or pound cakes are the typds to use. Cut the cake with a slhigrp knife into slices ‘13-inch thick. Then toast it lightly. Spread each slice with jam, and pour ori a little warmed cream, if desired.
Trifle
A famous old English niethod of using up cake is calle | “Trifle.” Slices of sponge cake are cut about 1 -inch thick, into filiger-length strips, and are put together with strewberry jam to form small sandwiches. These aré arrangéd in the botiom of a dessert dish and are sprinkled lightly with a 1tile grated lemon rind, then :moisieried well with cooking sherry or vine. Over this is spread cold soft custard sauce which! in turn is toppid with a mixture of 1 cup sweeten:d whipped creant combined with the whites of 2 eggs, beaten stiff. The finished ‘dessert is then well-chilled before serving.

Columbia Club Abandons International Theme for Dances
ANY PARTY THEMES left unemployed by the passing of the holiday season should make application this week to the Columbia Club. There the little group that directs the social activities of the club is racking its collective brain to find a “theme” for the Feb. 1st dance in a series of monthly buffet supper dances. Last fall the club began a series of “international” dances, with an “American” theme, followed in December by a “British” theme. » tJ ” : READY TO RESUME the series after the Christmas-New Years festivities, the theme-deterrminers ran smack into a quandary. In the words of one of them, “we found we had run out of friendly countries.” And that is why the next Columbia buffet supper dance will NOT have an international theme.
