JANE JORDAN

DEAR JANE JORDAN—Will you help the boys again and print something about girls who flirt with one boy when they are out with another? We like to have the girl's attention for ourselves when we are with her and are willing to give ours to her. We want her to be friendly with others but not to flirt. It sesms as though the more a girl likes a boy the more she wants to hurt His feelings. Is that correct? The girls we refer to are nice girls and this is the thing they do that hurts us most. When they are not in our company it We really feel like 110t going with these girls only we happen. to like them very mucli and wonder what is the reason for their actions. We can stand just so much, SEVERAL ANXICUS BOYS. on ” ” Answer—In our society popularity is one of the main drives among the young. High school girls tell me that the important] boys in school will not date a girl uniess she is well known to the student body. This puts the girls under the striss of making In their

bright, too attentive, too charming to too many. In ray opinion this is what ails the girls you go with. They think they have to collect

a lot of scalps or be overlooked when the promin ant boys make” :

dates. The biggest mistake the woultl-be popular girl wakes is to flirt openly with other boys when she is out on a date. [i is the surest way to lose her popularity. After all the boy who takes a girl out has a right to expect her at{éntion for himself for the period of time she is with him. As you remark it is one ting for her to

be friendly and cordial to other boys and quite anothsr to embarrass - ¥ her escort by holding hands undar the table with enother boy, by . disappearing at a dance with somebody else, or simply by letting it

appear that she is more interested in some other boy than the pne who is with her. Many a girl who plays down her escort is honestly

puzzled when he never asks her for another date. She hasn't the

least idea what she has done to offend him.

You state that the more a girl likes a boy the mare she oes

to hurt his feelings. 1 do not think that this is generally true.

A girl may feel that it is necessary for her to concial her feelings” :

because she has been told that boys are fickle ar lose interest quickly in the girl who is too crazy about them, This may lead her to take him down a notch or two ever so often, I fo not believe she enjoys doing it. 1 There are girls who have an aggressive attitude toward boys and do everything in their power to attract one for the pleasure of turning him down, but I trust they are in the minoriiy. If you have “one of these I should advise you to run for your life for they do not ‘make happy companions at Now that the girls have regc. about some of their wn mistakes perhaps they would like tae boys about some of the mistskes

made" by: their escorts. 1 shall be glad to publish thé Lest letters.
