| By FRANK WIDNER Up to now, Ellis W. Boyce has had only one vacation during his 70 years and that was 38 years ago.
'|He’s facing the problem of what to
do! with himself now that he is on a permanent one, Mr. Boyce, who for 48 years was an employee of the Indiang polis Power & Light Co. and one of the first meter readers here, retirecl the first of the year. It was back in 1892 that Mr. Boyce started to work for the power tompany as a “jack-of-all- trades.” Two years later the company began installing meters in Indiznapolis homes.
5 Days to Read Them All
“It took me about five days to read all the meters in Indianapolis,” Mr. Boyce recalled. “I used fo start out in Irvington in the morning and wind up in West Indianapolis that night. It was a full-time job for there was plenty of farmland in between what few houses had been built. “Most of the meters were in sgloons and roadhouses then, ” he continued. “And the company would furnish the light bulbs, no matter how often they burned out.” {Mr. Boyce has worked under every president of the utilily and there is ab least one man in every plant of the company who has Worked under Mr. Boyce.
Knows Nearly Every Man
| “I know almost every man there,” he said proudly. “And I know their vives and children, too. Most of them have been to my house.” ! To prove his staternent, Mr, Boyce said he received 204 cards from company employees when he reached his 70th birthday last month. Mr. Boyce said that he only had one real vacation prior to his refirement “even though the company ‘tried time and time again to get me to take a few weeks off.” | “I never asked for but ong vaca{ion, » Mr. Boyce said, smiling, “and

THIS WEATHERMAN HAS A NEW SYSTEM
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 16.—(U. P)— Personalized weather forecasting was: described today by Dr. Irving
P. Krick, meteorologist of Celifornia
Institute of Technology, before the United Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association convention here. Dr. Krick, director. .of an industrial service, at Pasadena, Calif, said‘ the new method of forecasting was “designed to protect every. undertaking involving a risk of the weather—from a housewife’s Monday wash to the production schedule of an ice cream manufacturer. In time such forecasts will be
available for areas from a few miles square to half the nation, even for
I[months in advance but much more
accurate than the old fashioned yearly weather almanac. ‘Dr. Krick spoke on the ap fplica. tion of personalized weather forecasting to the fruit.and produce industry.
Anti-Noise Drive in Memphis Silences Those Auto Horns
Times Special MEMPHIS, Tenn. Jan. 16.— Horn-tooting has been almost eliminated from this city, and the success of the anti-noise campaign has astounded its proponents. An anti-noise ordinance had been on the books for -several months before Police Commissioner Boyle announced that it would be gnforced, and that anyone who blew an auto horn except in an emergency would be arrested. Silence descended on this busy city. Now, when people hear a horn blown, they look around and usually find that it was an out-of-town driver. No longer does a horn at the curb take the place of a bell at the door, and Sunday afternoon naps are undisturbed. Drivers move in and out of lanes, turn corners, and criticize other motorists (softly, of course), not a posp from a horn is heard.
