the Bars

Right Off the Ice in the Battle of the Kilreas

Wally Was Foe but We Had Two on Our Side

It’s too bad the brothers Kilrea can’t be directing their hockey efforts toward a common goal, for there’s no telling ‘what they could do with a puck if they could keep it in the family.

Last night the three of ‘em got together on the Coliseum ice and had a hand in seven of the 10 goals scored. Hec the Elder and Ken the Kid were on our side, and Wally Yih Hershey, and our side won,

At least. the Kilreas -couldn’t monopolize the biscuit. Jack Keating hurt Goalie Nick Damore’s pride by rifling two into the awning and Archie Wilder got away for another score without anybody’s help. And speaking of help Mr. Damore could have used several extra hands in the second period when our Caps waltzed away from the B'ars and at the same time into sole possession of third place.

Each Gets a Pair

The first period had been about as even as a non-partisan would demand. The Caps had two goals, the Bars two. Our Jimmy Franks had made eight saves, their Mr. Damore the same number. Orville Roulston scored the first Hershey goal at 10:24 after a B’ar jam session at our end of the rink. Then Ken of the Kilreas actually struck Damore out for the first; Cap tally. Nick took a full swing at the puck and failed to get a piece of it. Now it was Hershey's turn, and the B’ars took advantage of Hal Jackson’s jail stretch to go into a 2-1 lead, Wally of the Kilreas, aided: and abetted by Howie Macke and Bobby Kirk, doing the damage. Before Jackson could get back on the ice; Referee Eddie Burke sent Bill Hollett off on a tripping charge. trafic, and Heck of the Kilreas gave

through the undermanned defense. . Dick did, and at 18:57 the Caps had ' evened the score.

5 } Keating’s First a Honey

Now came that second period that wracked the Bars in general and Jonn Shewchuk in particular, Shewch ck collided with a stick, and had to leave the ice for the evening be-| cause of a lacerated eyelid. Keating’s first goal was the kind] hockey managers dream about. Un-| der full steam, Jack took the puck,

from Jud McAtee just inside the]

blue.line and wheeled in from the right for a backhand shot into the far corner of the red rectangle. Franks twice had trouble with left] winger Joe Krol but there was no damage, and once more Keating came down for a hard shot that ap-| parently bounced into the cage and out. The goal judge ruled it a score and thanked his lucky stars ne was behind the chicken netting. Both Hec and Ken of the Kilreas set up an expedition -for Connie Brown, who still had to get by. Wally of the Kilreas, Hank Lauzon anc

You might be interested in hearing what some of Tony’s past, present and future foes said when they heard he was to be honored with an evening of his own Saturday night at the Fieldhouse. Benny Oosterbaan, Michigan’s coach, repeated what he. told Hink after his Wolverines played here this season: “Playing at Butler is as much like playing at home as any place we compete.
