There Is a Santa Claus
To us elders he does not enter down the chimney, but he finds his way into our hearts as he did into the heart of Dickens’
Scrooge.
He is the good impulse that at this season flows from our hearts, impelling us to give of ourselves and our possessions, with the high hope that other lives will be made happier, and we find that giving makes the giver happiest of all.
It’s a grand and glorious season—all of Haag’s 550 employees wish each and all of you a
Christmas.
YES...
We trust that we have and may be helpful.
May we submit the following?
The Value of Smile at Christmas
It costs nothing, but creates much.
It enriches those who receive, without improverishing those who give.
It happens in'a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits. It creates happiness in the home, fosters s0od will in a business and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the
for trouble.
Yee it can not be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is somethi to anybody till it is given away! ng Thal is U5 Ganinly good
And if in the last-minute rush of Christmas buying some of us salespeople should be too tired to
give you a smile, may we ask you to leave one of yours?
For nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left te givel

Jeffersonville and Clark County Officials Adopt Policy of Leniency.
flersonville and Clark County authorities today joined officials of 10 other cities and three counties in announcing a policy of leniency to motorists who fail .to buy their 1941 license tags before the Dec. 31 deadline. ? : Arthur T. Royce, Clark County Safety Director, said that it would be impossible for all motorists in the area to get plates at the County License Bureaul before the deadline and that a “reasonable period of time” would be given for their procurement. : State officials meanwhile still declined to comment on the tag dead-
ing throughout the state, except to say that the law will be enforced.
It is believed that Governor Townsend will refuse to grant an extension of the deadline, as he has done in years past. The Governor maintains that an extension is unnecessary because of the favorable employment situation.

P.).—The old maids ‘and bachelors of California are going round and round over a proposal to tax the
men for support of the women, and vice versa. The controversy started when a group of unmarried girls got together to consider their plight. It was, agreed these self-styled “bachelorettes,” a pretty state of affairs that the bachelors in the state were not sufficiently cognizant of their charms to ask their hand in marriage. ; Worse still was the fact that the bachelors had jobs and many of the women did not. Then they hit upon a “solution.” “Tax the bachelors for our support,” they cried, and torthwith incorporated themselves to seek legislation for this purpose. Bachelors, they, argued, do not assume the responsibilities of creating homes and rearing sons for the defense, hence they should make up this negligence in cold cash. But the bachelors were quick to challenge the plan. “Tax the wealthy widows,” suggested a group of Palo Alto men, “and use the proCoeds to support unemployed bacheors.”
“The possibilities are stagger-
Culbert Olson, without, however, saying who would be staggered. The men supported their suggestion with “statistics” purport; hg to show that a large part of the idle wealth in the state was in. the hands of widows who had inherited it. : i A Pasadena man, Richard Shafer, entered the , controversy with a letter to the Governor urging that sponsors of the bachelor tax plan “be congratulated with a few pats on the back with a hairbrush.”
Wrote Mr. Shafer: “Apparently this neurotic plan was concocted by. a few women with nothing better to do . .. why should unmarrig n be forced to support unmmarrie women? =
