John S. Ross Lost His Shirt Literally—in 1938 Mask and Wig

The memory of a peripatetic shirt front will enliven John S. Ross’ view of “High as a Kite” when it is presented Friday night at the Murat Theater by the University of Pennsylvania Mask and Wig Club. The shirt front in question adorned Jack’s chest, briefly to be sure,

Graduated Last June

Friday night will mark Jack’s first appearance on the “off side” of the footlights at a Mask and Wig presentation. He was graduated last June from the university, and is at home with his mother. Mrs. Gladys Sewell Ross, 5168 Kenwood Ave. When he was graduated, he received one of the coveted honors of the school in being elected to the Alumni Mask and Wig Club. Only students who have taken active parts in Mask and Wig productions are eligible for membership and only about 10 per cent of those eligible are elected. First nominated by popular vote of the undergraduate members, they must be approved by the graduate board of directors before being elected. He is the only local member of the alumni group.

women faculty members to the university’s new Women's Advisory Board, which will consider problems concerning the welfare of women on the Fairview campus. Faculty members will be Dr. Elizazeth B. Ward, dean of women; Prof. Florence I. Morrison, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Prof. Maria W. Hyde, College of Education. Two student members will be named later by the Student Council, governing organization of undergraduates. . Administrative activities’ of the, new board will be handled by the office of the dean of women. Miss Miriam Vollmer, secretary to Dr. M. O. Ross, dean of the Butler College of Business Administration, will represent women students in that college, and Mrs. Honta Hedger, secretary to Dr. Frederick D. Kershner, dean of the College of Religion, will be representative for co-eds in that school.

Robert Claycombe is chairman of the annual Freshman Rose dance, Jan. 10 at Butler. The seven sororities on the campus and the independent associations are expected to have candidates for the title, “Freshman Rose.” Freshmen men will vote Jan. 9 to‘elect the co-ed who will be honored the next evening at the first formal dance of the new year. Program and tickets chairman for the dance is Robert Ratz, who will be assisted by the Misses Ann Browning, Ann Loser, Mary Elizabeth Gessert and Mary Marjorie Smead. Mr. Claycombe will announce the band selected and the place of the dance later.

Dilworth-White Wedding Today

A marriage ceremony in New Haven, Conn., at 4 o’clock this afternoon was to unite Miss Miriam White, daughter of Mr. and. Mrs. William T. White, 1405 N. Hamilton Ave. and Dr. Robert P. Dilworth. H. A. C. Plans Gala Party

It’s going to be a gay New Year's Eve Party at the Hoosier Athletic Club, if reservations are any indication. The club already has 280 reservations for the event, which club officials said is the biggest

advance registration they have ever had. For the dance, the club has hired a “name band”—Bob Sylvester and his CBS orchestra. The orchestra brings with it a floor show. Saturday the club held its Christmas Party Dance. A huge Christmas tree stood near the band stand and flanking the tree were two seven-foot illuminated candles. At the intermission, the orchestra led the dancers in singing Christmas carols, Doc Grayson’s orchestra played. . The annual Christmas party for children of members was held yesterday from 2 to 4 p. m. More than 200 attended the event which was under the direction of Miss Rosalyn Ludwig, club dancing instructor. The club donated small gifts to the children attending. Neither the Boosters nor. the Guild will hold any activities until after the holiday season. . The Boosters have scheduled their first meeting for Jan. 13 while the Guild will meet Jan. 8, at which time the expanded program mapped for 1941 will be inaugurated.

Turners Plan Dance - To Mark Year End

The departure of 1940 will be celebrated by the Athenaeum Turners with a lance and entertainment program beginning "at 9 p. m. Dec. 31 at the Athenaeum. M. Daugherty Wolfe will act as master of ceremonies for the event which will feature professional entertainers and an orchestra with two vocalists. Mr. Wolfe formerly was at Pierre’s Roof in Philadelphia, the Shoreham Hotel in Washington and the Lord Baltimore Hotel in Baltimore. A buffeb supper wil be served from 9 p. m. until midnight.
