Conkle, Locke to Visit Meet-"

If it hadn’t been for some fast work by the Board of School Commissioners, under suspension of the rules, Roscoe Conkle and Theodore Locke would have had to get their first unofficial look-in on a Board meeting on New Year's Eve. a
Instead, they'll attend a Board meeting the evening before. It's a date the pair have been waiting for since Nov. 8, 1938, when they were elected to the Board. - Officially, the two men won't be‘come Board members until Jan. 14, the first meeting in 1941, But they're going to make a courtesy visit Dec. 30 when the two men will replace John F. White and Earl Buchanan, retired after four years’ service. - The School Board changed the fiext bi-monthly ©” meeting date, which normally falls on a Tuesday, to the preceding Monday to avoid New Year’s Eve. - Mr. Conkle, a funeral director, “has attended Board meetings beFore, but only as a: citizen interested in action by the s¢hool group. Both said they looked forward to gerving on the Board as a “pleasant duty.” “We have no special plans in mind for action when we join the Board. In fact, we'll be very quiet members until we become oriented, » Mr. Locke said. Mr. Locke and. Mr. Conkle have been ‘members-elect: for two years because of laws governing the Board. rienced members serving on the Board. Mr: Conkle, who lives at 1934 W. is married and has two: children. He is 43. His oldest son, John, is a pupil at School 50 and will be a Washington High School freshman next fall. His youngest son, Roscoe Jr. is 17 months old. Active in civic affairs on the West Side, Mr. Conkle is a member of the American’ Legion, the 40 & 8, Odd. Fellows Lodge, Knights of Pythias, Masonic: Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Murat Temple. He is past president of the West
Michigan Street Business and Professiorial Men’s Club, is past president of the Lions ‘Club and has served as president of the Indianapolis District Epworth League. Mr. Locke's two children, Theodore Jr. and Elsie ‘Ann, are both graduates of Shortridge = High School. _ His son is a junior at Dartmouth College and his daughter is a freshman “at Smith College. Mr. Locke, who is 49, lives at 5210 Washington Blvd. He attended the University of Missouri and holds the degree- of

ROCHESTER, Ind, Dec. 13 (U. P.).—Nine pupils in Woodrow Consolidated Grade School near here narrowly escaped serious injury yesterday when their school bus was involved in an accident. A car driven by. John Ginn, 72, of Rochester, crashed into the rear of the bus as it was stopped to unload passengers on Road 14 .along the north shore of Lake Manitou. Ginn’s car skidded on wet pavement when he attempted to stop behind the bus. The children were shaken up and
