The theater's management hazards a guess that it will show at what they call “Boom Town” prices, which is a little above the standard tariff, but considerably below the road-show charge made on its first appearance here last January. Today, incidentally, marks the first anniversary of the pictures premiere in Atlanta. During the past ‘year the film has grossed an estimated $18,000,000, and it has yet to hit the smaller budgets with the reduced fare. There will be no corresponding cut

Patrons of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra need not be told that Leon Zawisza has done an excellent job as concertmaster of the orchestra during the past two and a quarter seasons. And it was equally apparent last evening that Mr. Zawisza's solo playing has gained in assurance and ease, along with his increasing command, of orchestral requirements. The young concertmaster gave his third recital under the auspices of the Jordan Conservatory of Musié, where he is a faculty member. And his recital drew forth an audience that filled the War Memorial auditorium. Included was more than a quorum “of the recitalist’s ‘orchestra colleagues. There were three substantial items on Mr. Zawisza’s program, a Sonata in B Flat by Mozart, Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole,, and the Poeme by Chausson. In ade dition there were Kreisler's arrangement of the Dvorak Slavonic Dance No. 3; the “Andante rubato, alla zingaresca” by Dohnanyi, and Wieniawski’s Polonaise Brilliante in D. Altogether it was a much more satisfactory collection of violin music than you will find in a hatful of fiddle recitals. The Mozart-sonata is one of the love-
was fortunate in having the services of Nina Dutton. It has been a long time since a local player has had the gssistance of a pian= ist so amply supplied with singing tone and velvet phrase, and understanding of the accompanist’s duties and privileges.

liest examples of that composer's magnificent chamber music. The Symphonie: Espagnole, though it may be pseudo-Spanish, certainly wears well, and is a grateful and rewarding item for the equipped artist. And ‘the Chausson Poeme is something which we hear too seldom. ® = =
TO ENTHUSE over the music is to speak well of the performer, For Mr. Zawisza put himself in the background and his audience at their ease within the first few measures. After that he projected the music with intelligence and care, and seemed to give the im- | pression of enjoying himself and the music more than he has on previous appearances. It seemed to me that Mr, Zawisza’s already solid technical equipment has gained a great deal of poise in the last year. The whole program bristled with difficulties, but the soloist never labored. Things came off easily and, especially in the Chausson music, there was an admirable combination of warm tone, technical .fluency and emotional communication.
