Stiver Praises Organization
Don Stiver, State director for the Foundation, praised the Marion County permanent organization and said it was one of only 16 in Indiana. He said he hoped to be able to report the names of 92 county chairmen to the national office in New York by Monday. The need for fuffds to -combat paralysis is greater than ever, Mr. Stiver said, pointing out that there were 671 cases to Nov. 30 and 65 deaths to Nov. 1 in Indiana this year as compared to only 56 cases last year. : . : He announced that Mrs. James L. Murray, president of the Indiana Council of Parents and Teachers, would be assistant State director, and Frederick T. Cretors of the Indiana State Police would be State publicity director. . :

The co-operation of ParentTeacher groups has been pledged to the organization, Mr. Stiver told the Chapter. “Unless we do the job of raising funds and do it well, the march of infantile paralysis will not be halted,” John Hughes, director of the local drive, said. Evan Walker, co-director, pointed out that the campaign was one of the duties “we owe to our fellow men.” ’ | Mrs, Winifred V. Kahmann, occupational therapy director at the Indiana University Medical Center, told of the work done at Riley Hos-

NEWEST CARNATION |} IS OF ‘DEEP. ORANGE’
PITTSFIELD, Mass., Dec. 6 (U. P.) .—Florist Max Engelmann is experimenting with a new variety of carnation he hopes will land in the horticultural hall of fame alon with another “sport” he developed. i A “sport,” he explains, is a sudden deviation from type—a practiHe thinks his latest discovery, a deep orange carnation, may surpass the record set by his first discovery, the Berkshire Hills, which has become one of the best-known exhibition catnations in the nation. = The reason for his optimism is that his latest “sport” is orange, an unusual color in carnations, and that it was fathered by the King Cardinal, which has been voted the No. 1 carnation by florists. The Berkshire Hills was fathered by a lesser type of carnation, the Patrician. |
