* Crippling of Victims, Doctor Reports.
CLEVELAND, Dec. 5 (U. P).— An X-ray technique that may lessen the crippling after effects of
|infantile paralysis was explained to
physicians during sessions of the Radiological Society of North America by Dr. Davis Spangler.of Dallas, Tex. : ; Dr. Spangler in displaying one of the \society’s, exhibits yesterday showed that through use of X-ray the growth of a leg unaffected by paralysis may be retarded sufficiently to permit the ' crippled member “to catch up.” In his "exhibit. Dr. Spangler showed how: irradiation with X-rays
checked the growth of healthy legs of four children who had. been afflicted with the diseases. In the case of one child there was a difference of nearly two inches in the length of the legs. After applying the treatment for a year and a half, Dr. Spangler noted, the difference - had been décreased to
little more than an inch.

Reflects British Courage
The indomitable spirit. with which Britons try to carry on everyday life despite privation of blockade and war from the skies. .is re-
| flected in a letter received here by
Dr. Frank S. C. Wicks. The letter, passed through censorship, was received by the minister emeritus of the All Souls Unitarian Church from Ralph Mottram, British novelist living in Norwich, England. “I.do not suppose that you, who know so well, have been deceived by false reports which we are told ‘have deen put about on your side about ‘the state of things here,” Mr, ‘Mottram wrote. . “If vou want to have a first hand account, I can tell you that while many bombs have admittedly fallen in and gbout our towns and some damage and casualties have been caused, there is not the slightest panic or privation here.” There are “some reasonable restrictions” on fcodstuffs, ‘the only stipulation being on fish or meat and fixed quantities of butter and sugar,” the author said in his letter. “The worst thing we have to suffer has been our regret at the subjugation of what we regard as a highly civilized people,” the letter added. j Voicing a hope that the U. 8. will be spared a share in the conflict, the letter expresses gratefulness for aid sent to England.
