THE CHIEF concern of ‘Butler basketballers these
days are those black marks that go in Tony Hinkle’s notebook at each afternoon class. All bad passes, dribbles and shots are recorded by Hink, ‘and daily grades are distributed after each scrimmage. The “A” and “B” students natur= ‘ally will be closer to varsity berths than those below the class average. . | At yesterday’s practice the first five was composed of Capt. Bop Dietz and James McCray, forwards; Jack Clayton, center, and Bill Hamilton and Lyle Neat, guards. These five seniors, priv . ileged to keep their shirts on, battled to a 22-22 tie with the “skins” in a 20-minute session. + When it was over, [Tony complained chiefly of the spotty defense work. The Bulldogs scoot
like lubricated lightning on attack, though, neighbor.

Six of the seven games coming up this week-end in the North Central Conference are strictly family affairs. Here's the complete league card: | : Friday | ‘New Castle at Anderson. Frankfert at Muncie.
Lafayette at Richmond. Marion at Logansport.
Saturday New Castle at Lafayette. Kokomo at Tech. Marion at Tipton. |
Muncie and New Castle will be making their first| conference starts, while Lafayette and Frankfort will be striving to protect their perfect slates., They say that Coach Orville Hooker has gona back to an old love—slefense—since his Marion Giants have lost their first two league games. City warfare is gelling an early start in Ft. Wayne. This weekend Central and North tangle in what looks like a close one. Although North won three straight from the downtowners last season, Central already has three games and an extra week of practice to its advantage this tirke. North Side put on a ragged sho last week-end in defeating Masonic Home of Franklin, 26-18.
Last ‘year it was “Gone With the wind.” This year it’s “Gone With the Draft.”
