Expert Advises Easy Exercises ~~" To Please the "Lazy" Woman

IF YOU ARE WORRIED about your figure and too lazy to take

a strenuous course of exercises, don’t despair. ideas you can do before you get up in the morning that are almost as

good as a standard “daily dozen.” James Davies, physical instructor at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and exercise and diet mentor to guch stars as Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard, Madeleine, Carroll and Ellen Drew, has a pldce in his heart for lazy ladies. “Not everyone can be filled with energy.

' Not everyone can face a cold room

early in the morning to do exercises the correct way. We're only human and it is my experience that half the human race is lazy! So,” continues this exercise expert, “here are some exercises that you can do just before you get out of bed in the morning. Of course, if you have the will power, they are all the better done on the floor—but the bed will do and it ceriainly seems easier done this way!” For that nice, flat stomach line that the stylists scream so loudly for every season, he has two suggestions—both can be done while you are still trying to wake up. For the first, throw back the covers and lie flat on your back with your arms beside you’‘on the bed. Now bend the knees and bring them back until they are almost touching

- the chest and you can feel the en-

tire stomach surface contract. Straighten the legs out again and repeat five times. Do this exercise very slowly and make yourself as conscious as possible of the pull on each of your muscles as you go through the motions of this exer-

This one is just as good for the stomach muscles but takes a little more effort to do than the first. Roll over on your face, bend your elbows at right angles to your body and place your hands flat on the bed on a line with your shoulders. “Now, moving slowly, raise your body off

. the bed, bracing yourself entirely on

your hands and the tips of your toes ~—again, feel the pull of every muscle and be sure to take your time. Don’t do this exercise more than five times a morning, though, if you wish, you may build up to doinglit five times at night too.” Foriyou lazy women who wish to “frm up” flabby thighs and slim down hiplines: Again throw back the covers and stretch out straight. Turn on your left side and brace arms together in front of you. Now take your left leg and throw it as far behind you as you can, then swing it forward with a slow kicking motion until you touch your outstretched arm. Do this five times

on the left side and five times on

the right. The classic setting-up exercise that energetic people do before an

- bpen window with great gusto is still

another one that James Davies says may be done while in bed and you can even keep the covers over all of you but the very top in case it’s chilly! Lie on your back and throw your arms out to the side then bring them together in front of you. Breathe in deeply when you fling your arms out and exhale when the arms are together. Ten times witl. this exercise and you'll feel able to take on even the most trying day.

The “magic skin” doll which the little curly-headed model is pinching is big news in toy departments this Christmas. The doll has a hard, unbreakable plastic head and a soft, flexible, plastic body which looks and feels like real skin. Even her toes and fingers are flexible. Publishes Biblical Christmas Plays

Parents, teachers and Sunday School teathers will welcome the publication of a new bocklet entitled “Biblical Christmas “Plays for Children.” It was written by a loca)

woman, Mrs. William R. (Helen Boyd) Higgins and published by Meigs. Sisk Included in it are five short plays for children of ail ages. Its -outstanding feature is the practability and adaptibity of the dramatized stories., Scenery often is not necessary and when used can be quite simple. Costumes and properties too may ‘be those planned by the children themselves from the home wardrobe. The booklet is dedicated to Miss Mary, Bill and Boyd Higgins, daughter and sons of the author, who as children originally gave the|¥} plays in the home. “The Little Shepherd,” with a cast of three boys and three girls of various ages, tells the story of the shepherd boy who watched the sheep while the shepherds went to worship the Christ Child. A children's chorus and Christmas creche with’ living characters may be added if given in the Sunday School or school room,

” ® 8 APPEALING is “A Christmas Story for Grandmother” designed

for dramatization by little children. A Christmas creche is-assembled by the characters,” two boys and two girls, as the story unfolds. “The Youngest Helpers” has as its theme|§ the efforts of some children to make | room for Mary and Joseph's lodging. Very little preparation, scenery or costuming are needed for the presentation of “When Christ Was Born,” a ten-minute play about children who visited the stable after Christ’s birth. A twenty-five minute play for use in the school or Sunday school is “The Christ Child Candle” in three scenes. It is a|P fictitous story built about a little date seller who sells her wares outside Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth. -
