age has produced a full-blown rose right out of the earth, without bene-

fit of bush, pruning, or black spot, made of plastic, and it's practically A strange "and wonderful rose it is. The latest in fadeless flowers for a lady’s lapel, hat or hair, is made of a synthetic flexible plastic, “Vinylite” sheeting, chemically developed from coke, salt, limestone, natural gas, air and water. From such natural and even prosaic sources comes the delicate, transparent and colorful plastic material which is being used to make shining and very modern boutonnieres, hat trimmings and dainty shoe bows. It’s almost unbelievable that what began in the themist’s laboractery as a white powder resembling ‘cornstarch, and which later, heated up and kneaded, looked like a mass of gray dough, should shortly turn|. out to be a group of shining rose petals with slender. green stems sparkling with dew-like centers. ! These plastic flowers—and many other exciting accessories as well— are simply made, merely by twisting and cutting, from thin, transparent sheets which come off hot rollers in an industrial plant. The artist and the designer do the rest, bring forth shapely leaves, flower petals, knotting strips of the plastic for flower centers. More stylized boutonnieres are made with little silvery bells of the clear transparent plastic, and set off against! green leaves. Flower clusters are made in rose end blue and silver-clear combinations. These flower groups are suitable for unusual lapel ornaments, hat trimming, and to decorate plain suede shoes. There are also silverclear, amber, and rosy shoe bows, either fancy or tailored, that do worlds to dress up a classic suede

pump. ; Flexible round strips of the.plastic, extruded under heat to spa-ghetti-sized strands, can be worked into fancier and more sparkling flower clusters, and also into mesh crochet for plastic necklaces and bracelets. 3

engaged to a man who was everything a girl could want, yet who broke her engagement because she was doubtful? She did not realize she was in love with him until he met another girl who loved him for what he is. The first girl treated the man very rudely and did everything in her power to hurt him although she knew he was deeply in love with her. No man could have been more fair. Now she realizes that she made the greatest mistake of her life, : The man claims he is still in love with her but makes no attempt to see ner. I believe he is afraid she would do him the same way over again if she knew she had him again. I believe he has lost faith in her but I know that she has learned her lesson and she sees all his good points now. Why are girls so foolish? When they know a man is in love with them they think they can treat him any old way. Do you think there is any chance of his coming back? ; : ANXIOUS. 2 = 8 #2, 82 = Answer—You ask me why girls treat a man any old way when they know he is in love with them. The answer is that this is not the behavior of the average girl at all. Happy to be loved she responds with more love because she knows she is appreciated. The man, in turn, has a greatly enhanced sense of his personal worth because he has found favor in a woman'’s eyes and strives to please in order to enjoy increased admiration. + However, there are women who attract men to them for the purpose of turning them down. These are the women who believe that it is a man’s world and that women get the worst of-it in life. They believe that men are conceited creatures who deserve their comeuppance. Usually you will find a brother in the background whom the girl believes was valued by the parents more than she. Some-

EVERY FAMILY GOES FOR THIS QUICK, SAVORY M

times jealousy of the father, or disappointment in him, lays the foundation of later aggression against men. At any rate, when a woman deliberately and continuously hurts the man who loves her, we know she made the conquest for this purpose. . This young lady did not realize her fiance’s virtues until he met another girl who did. When a woman finds herself contending with another woman for the love of a man we can safely assume that it is not the first time that she has been in this position. In childhood she must have contended with her mother for the love of her father or brother and imagined herself to be the loser. The desire to take a-man away from another woman is typical of the woman who is consciously or unconsciously envious of the masculine role. I do not know what the chances are of a reconciliation between - this ill-mated couple. Some men seem irresistibly attracted to the | woman who treats them with the least consideration.
