JANE JORDAN

DEAR JANE JORDAN—I am a boy in my teens. I have bed going with a girl since September until rH weeks ago i po suddenly took a notion that she didn’t want to go with me any more She is a swell girl. Her mother i$ a nice lady, too, and we. get along like two peas in a pod, but it looks as if Rose and I are alk washed up. I love her very much and can’t get her off my mind. I can’t figure out why she doesn’t want to go with me any more. I always have treated her as if she were my ‘mother, and took her wherever she wanted to go. Please answer. LONELY BOY.

Answer—Very few girls like the boys their mothers pick r A ! out for them. They re much more apt. to like the boys of De their mothers disapprove Therefore it is no advantage to you to get

2

/

along with the girl’s mother like two peas in a pod. You charmed

the mother ‘When you should have been working on the daughter, If she gives you another chance, devote your entire attention ‘to the girl. She is trying to establish a feeling of separateness from her mother and doesn’t relish a little family threesome so. much Don't treat ‘her as if she were your mother. Tt isn’t exciting enough to suit a young lady who wants fo be courted none too safely. If she won't give you another chance, give up. Whatever you do don't get the reputation of hanging on after you've been turned down. There are plenty of other girls, yolt know. ” ” ” » 8 » : DEAR JANE JORDAN--A year ago Jim split tip with J started to go with me. Naturally I was oh the P other girl” ad blamed for something I had nothing to do with. It made it difficult for me as everyone felt sorry for her. The boy came to me of his own free will but she doesn’t believe that. ‘ : She has caused a good deal of our arguments by her meddling. She is always writing Jim letters begging him to meet her of take her home after he has been with me. Jim and I are planning to get married in a year or two. I am afraid that she might cause serious trouble between us although Jim says he is'in love with me and doesn’t even like Jane. > I am awfully jealous but am broad-minded. Our only arguments occur when I hear of her bothering him. Her mother has a ~ lot todo with it for she tells everyone that Jim and I will never go together long but that he will come back to Jane. I don’t believe ‘this as we have gone together almost a year. What can I do to make Jane leave Jim alone and quit saying the catty things she says about me?’ PUZZLED.

../Answer—The best possible thing you can do is to ignore’ the situation completely. The more you do to stop gossiping tongues the faster they wag. Why provide fresh: material for the girl and her

‘mother to talk about? y

® After all it is up to the young man to avoid meetings with his

former friend. Any move you make will be attributed to jealousy ‘and will add fuel to the flame. Obviously the young lady is a poor loser whose vanity will not admit defeat. 1 However, even the poorest loser gives up in time. doubt if she will cling to a lost cause year after year, particularly after your marriage, Let her alone and she'll get tired sooner than she will if you add fresh incentive by open opposition. : .
