elevation will not be made until the!"
Seventy-seventh Congress convenes Jan. 3, it was reported here today. ' When the veteran Senator Henry P, Ashurst (D. Ariz.) was defeated
for renomination, it was generally] reported that this chairmanship,

Both Senators VanNuys and McCarran signed that report. The plan was defeated. For any Senator to reach such a major committee chairmanship .in his second tefm is considered most unusual.

Mayor W. Vincent Youkey of Crown Point, league executive secretary, outlined the three major points of the groups’ program: “Greater return to local units of government of state collected taxes; relief from state taxes on all municipal property and functions; a broader share of final authority in dealing with problems which are strictly local in nature and for whose solution Mayors and other municipal officials are required to account to their local citizens and taxpayers.”
