But when Max Kaminsky got loose, there was nothing for him to do but score, and Springfield's margin
was one goal fatter.
At various times in this session the Caps stirred up what looked to be a goal threat, but each time Eddie Shore and associates checked resorting to the Amos ’n’ Andy double-check in perilous instances.
McAtee vs. McAtee
Determined to salvage something of a bad evening the Hoosiers came out for blood in the third period, then had to fall back when Eddie Bush was handed his second penalty of the night. The puck was lifted from the Capital protectors in mid-ice, and Mr. Thibeault put it away for Springfield's fourth score. When the Indians found themselves undermanned a minute later, the Caps repaid the compliment, Butch McDonald scoring from close in with the help of Bill Jennings. Young Jud McAtee conducted a personal expedition to get the puck past his brother, goalie Red McAtee, but Eddie Shore took sides with Red and that was that. (J. E. O'B.) Tony Berto and Walter Cook, the information being that Cook will start. Our own Red Carter, one of Coach Henry Bogue’s Washington
gridiron graduates, should open at left half, with Fred Smerke at quarter and big John Petty at fullback.
The Indiana backfield hasn't jelled either. Hal Hursh limped through this week’s drill sessions at Indiana, and the doc wasn't entirely satisfied when he made his final inspection of Hurlin’ Hal’s leg. Colonel Bo has indicated Tuffy Brooks would operate from the left half position, with Earl Doloway doing what tossing the Hoosiers might do from quarterback. Of course, there's been no flat statement that Hursh wouldn't play. That's the personnel situation in a nutshell. Now let's look at season records just for sake of argument. Indiana has won two games and lost five, and so has Purdue. In
one victory and three losses, and again it’s the same for Purdue. Comparative scores show Purdue 11 points better against both Iowa and Wisconsin and 16 points ahead against Ohio State. But Indiana is 33 points Purdue's superior against Michigan State. Where's the mathematician who can make a decision on those figures? But the past schedule may have worked in Indiana’s favor. Purdue has had three recent toughies in Iowa, Fordham and Minnesota. The Gophers alone could make the average guy quit football for keeps. If anything’s wrong with the Boilermakers, it’s just that they're worn out. On the other hand, it must be admitted that the Hoosiers haven't worked as hard as they might. If they show any half-heartedness in their labor tomorrow, it will be goodby I. U. Then there's the big question of weather. Both want a hard, fast track—because both use lots of tricks some speed, a good sprinkling of aerials. The Hoosiers blamed poor footing for that epidemic of fumbling last week at Madison.

And Furthermore, Stanford Seems All Set for 1941
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 (U, P.).— It may be like rubbing salt into the football wounds of seven Pacific Coast Conference schools, but here is a timely reminder that Stanford’s Indians seem likely to renew their option on the Rose Bowl next year. ‘Already assured of a tie for the conference title and needing only a victory over California to take sole possession, the Indians are conceded the Bowl bid this year although
their selection remains a conference |H
formality. Stanford's climb is the most breath-taking rise to football supremacy the Coast has witnessed in years and also a painful thorn in the side of Washington and U. S. pre-season conference favorites. There seems little relief in sight for that pain since Stanford will have back almost the same band of
Indians who've been cracking con-
ference skulls this year. With but three exceptions, the Stanford club is composed of juniors and sophomores which makes the spurt to the
top even more remarkable and provides a clear indication of what to expect from Clark Shaughnessy’s boys in 1941. Shaughnessy’s biggest loss will be big Norm Standlee, bone crushing fullback and an important key to Stanford’s offense. Right halfback h Gallarneau and left end Stan Graff are the other two seniofs who will have to be replaced by Shaughnessy next year. With his two ace players, quarterback Frankie Albert and left half
