HOG RECEIPTS HERE MAY SET 16-YEAR MARK

Nearly 20,000 Received as Winter Weather Causes “Heavy Selling.

Threats of winter weather caused farmers to send their hogs to market , today in record-breaking numbers. At noon more than 18,000 hogs had been unloaded at the Indianapolis stockyards and it was estimated by the Agricultural Marketing Service that “the total today would approach 20,000. At this rate, Indianapolis received one-fourth of ‘the hogs shipped to

The “First Nighter” program heard at 7:30 p. m. each Tuesday on WFBM plans a gala observance of its 10th anniversary two weeks from tonight. It was Thanksgiving Day, 1930, when the curtain rosé for the .first time in the “little theater off Times Square.” Since then the sprightly comedies, farces and mysteries presented by “First Nighter” have® helped many actors to fame in both radio and movies.

25,000 and St. Louis about 16,000, At one time this morning trucks were lined up from’ the: unloading platform at the yards clear back to Harding St.—about a mile—and even a few trucks were waiting in line at the side of Harding St. Should today’s total be 20,000 hogs it would be the most received here since Jan. 8, 1924—16 years ago—when 21,763 hogs were received. It was pointed out that up to now it has been possible to feed the hogs out in the fields but with cold weather coming those farmers who do not have facilities for feeding in their barns must sell their supply. Prices today fell 15 cents for porkers weighing 160 pounds or more which brought the top down to $6.10 for good and choice 220 to 230-pounders. The highest paid this year was $7.65 on Aug. 27 and the lowest was $5.05 on April 1. A year ago the top was $6.40.

Most of them enjoyed an additional two weeks’
