WASHINGTON, Nov. 6.—The election may be over, but for the C. I. O. the scrap is just getting started. The organization was due for Some sort of a showdown fight at its Nov. 18 convention anyhow, with the left-wing unions heading one way and the more moderate unions heading in another. But the bitter

antagonisms aroused by John L. Lewis’ declaration for Wendell Willkie put a new element into the picture. Union politics are about as hard to forecast as national party politics, Men close to t his situation, however, suggest two | possible outcomes for the C. I. Balancing that group would be the more moderate crowd, whose chief spokesman is Sidney Hillman. Commonest’ guess here is that if the split~occurs this group would before long find some way of making peace with the American Federation of Labor and getting back into the fold. Count Lewis’ Vote In Springfield, II. SPRINGFIELD, Ill, Nov. 6 (U. P.).—L. A. Danner, election judge for|, the 93rd Springfield precinct, last night said that John L. Lewis’ absentee ballot was received and counted, unchallenged by any other voters of the precinct. ° Mr. Lewis mailed his ballot to this city, his home town, after election authorities at Alexandria, Va., where he currently resides, ruled that he was not eligible to vote there, because, it\ was reported, he had failed to register although he paid the $1.50 Virginia’ poll tax. Also received and counted were the absentee ballotss of Mr. Lewis’ wife, Mpyrta, and his daughter, Kathryn. Mr. Lewis lived here permanently before he came into national prominence as president. of the United Mine Workers of America and head of the C, I. O.
