ANSWER CHARGES, BLUE TELLS LEWIS
Sherwood Blue, Republican candidate for Prosecutor, charged in an address at Third Ward Republican Headquarters last night that Prosecutor David Lewis has not answered a single charge made against his administration. Mr. Blue said that these unanswered charges have included statements that the poor and needy have been preyed upon to the enrichment of Democratic politicians and favorites. -He also charged that “records in Criminal Court bear witness to peculiar processes for which the Prose-
cutor is responsible which make for|
disrespect for law and order.” Mr. Blue claimed that even if this were not a’ campaign year, the Prosgcutor should, answer such charges because ‘the office is a sacred stewgrdship and ‘the public is entitled a statement. *
COLLINS ATTACKS FOOD ‘IMPORTATION
James A. Collins, Republican candidate for. Congress from the 12th District, in an address today at Kingan & Co., attacked the importation of foods. “Importation of an average of nearly a quarter billion dollars worth of farm products annually since the advent of the New Deal is not only robbing farmers of their rightful income but is depriving American labor of a vast share of its normal prosperity,” he said. Mr. Collins said the Department of Commerce figures show that more than a billion 700 millions dollars worth of farm products were imported during the years 1933 to

Willkie Moving Through W. Virginia and ‘Maryland; Lewis Rapped.
By UNITED PRESS Predaent Roosevelt campaigned New England today as ue L.” Willkie moved through West Virginia and Maryland. Foreign affairs and the State of American defenses had been advanced as the issue by the nation-
wide radio speech last night by | iif
Joseph P. Kennedy, Ambassador to Great Britain, defending Mr. Roosevelt’s manner of guiding the ecountry through the ‘world crisis and calling for his re-election.
Mr. Kennedy's broadcast, which | fi
was paid for by his family, was devoted mainly to America’s position in the war and the prospects of keeping this country out of it. He said the United States could avoid war if it. built up its defenses fast enough, and that Mr. Roosevelt, because of his ‘experience, - was the best man to guide the country through the crisis,

dorsement of Mr. Willkie. He said Mr. Lewis had “shocked the liberal-and humanitarian sentiment of America,” and that Mr. Willkie “plus the Republican leadership of today, constitute a most reactionary and anti-social threat to your (workers’) rights and wellbeing.” . Alfred E. Smith, former New York Governor and Democratic Presidential nominee in 1928, charged at Philadelphia that Mr. Roosevelt was making “inflammatory utterances,” and that New Dealers were “childish? in their attempts to blame Republicans for the state of American d ses. In Chicago, Mayor FP: H. La Guardia of New York said Mr. Willkie’s was a campaign of “threats, cunning, fear and money.” He said
the Republicans would wind up| [fii
their campaign by “attempting to
create a war scare, particularly in| | i
the Midwest.” Wallace Talks in Iowa
Rep. Bruce Barton of New York, Republican candidate for the Sen-
‘ate, charged that letters sent to ii
President Roosevelt, criticizing his speeches, were being turned over to the Department of Justice and that
such tactics might lead to an|| ith
“American gestapo.” Senator James M. Mead, Mr. Barton’s Democratic opponent, said at New York that Republicans were trying to win women’s votes by creating a “war scare.” Henry A. Wallace charged Mr. Willkie ‘with inconsistency in his statements on the farm program. He spoke at Ft. Dodge, Iowa. In his final bid for Iowa's 11 electorall/votes, Mr. Wallace told an audi®hce of farmers: 2 “The Republican leaders have no real farm program, except to study up what they believe the farmers in each state want, and then have their Presidential candidate promise to give it to them.”
