Mickey Rooney teams up with his movie playmate, Judy Garland, in tenight’s presentation of the Radio Theater, 8 o'clock, on WFBM. The youthful performers will appear in “Strike Up the Band,” from their current movie success. Tonight's presentation has been produced F ar Ny an DeMille, who is Judy Garland = opctituting for his brother, Cecil. The latter will be in Chicago attending the premiere of his newest movie, “Northwest Mounted Police.” It will be the first appearance for Mickey and Judy on the Radio Theater hour.

WFBM will broadcast the first drawing dnder the selective service law from 11 a. m. to 11:45 a. m. tomorrow. The drawing will occur in Washington with President Roosevelt and Secretary of War Stimson playing the leading roles, although the President will not participate in the actual lottery. The President will speak, explaining how the lottery operates and citing reasons for the first peacetime conscription in the nation’s history. His broadcast precedes the drawing. ' Secretary Stimson| then will be blindfolded and ‘led to the historic “fishbowl” which served the same purpose in the World War draft in 1917. After he draws the first ~number, several other Government officials will draw. The lottery later will be turned over to trained teams properly rehearsed to speed

At least two kinds of pinball machines may be used lawfully in Marion County, according to an injunction issued today by Circuit Court Judge Earl R. Cex. Police were enjoined from interfering with the lawful use of machines known as the “Leader” and “Landslide.” The devices. wich may represent P any kind of amusement from the “Follies” to a baseball game, are not allowed to have a “free play,”

Honest Election Is G.O.P.'s Goal

WIDESPREAD INTEREST in a Republican campaign to assure Indiana an honest election was claimed today by Edwin Steers, chairman of the G. O. P. State Vote Fraud Committee. Republican State Headquarters said that “hundreds” of election instruction pamphlets are being distributed throughout the State. “From independent voters, as well as Republicans who clearly recall the 1938 Election, we are being encouraged to organize volunteer watchers, who will in no way interfere with normal voting, but-who will be alert to questionable tactics at any precinct polling place in Indiana.”

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 (U. P.). —The Republican National Committee today reported receipts of $2,891,637 and expenditures of $2,101,821 from Jan. 1 to Oct. 22. Due to differences permitted in the period eovered By reports filed with the clerk of the House, no immediate comparison with Democratic National Committee finances was available immediately. - The Democratic Committee Saturday reported receipts $642,320 and disbursements of $603,742 from Sept. 1 to Oct. 20. Iinal reports for the campaign will be filed after the election.

TRACK CRASH KILLS GREENSBORO RACER

MONTPELIER, Ind. Oct. 28 (U. P.).—James W. Snead, 23-year-old race driver of Greensboro, was killed yesterday afternoon in a crash at the Fair Grounds here. Snead’s car was upset in a collision with another driven by Clarence Smith of Muncie.
