Movie Firms O. K. Ruling
Consent Decree Reached In U. S. Suit.
NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (U. P.)— Five major motion picture producIng firms cited by the Government on anti-trust charges have agreed on the terms of a consent decree,
it was disclosed today in Federal court,
The companies were among eigh- . firms accused of monopolistic practices and blocking booking. Under the terms of the consent decree, the Government withdrew its point in hat it is improper for motion picure producing companies to be also ret distributors. The companies, for their part, promised to refrain from monopolistic practices in thé future. A modification in the system of block booking by which independent exhibitors formerly were obliged to rent a year’s output of pictures sight unseen also has been made. Independents will be allowed to see the pictures before they rent them ¢ and need take only five at a time. Judge Henry W. Goddard granted a8 week’s postponement to permit the U. S. Attorney’s office here to obtain the formal approval of Attorney General Robert Jackson. The five companies are Loew's Inc, Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc. RKO- Radio Pictures, Inc., 20th . Century-Fox Films Corp. and Paramount Pictures, Inc. The three companies not concerned in the proposed consent decree are Columbia Pictures, Inc., United Artists Corp. and Universal Pictures, Inc.

Several had radios, many had gear shifts, almost all were carrying glittering horns, lights and speedometers. Some had fox tails strung from the handle bars.
