STATE FORESTRY 10 BE ‘AUDITED’

Lumber Available in Clark County Will Be Checked This Winter.

The State Forestry Department. is going to “audit” a state forest this! winter, figure what interest has accumulated since 1903, and set up

& project to withdraw the interest | %

* without touching the principal.

For this project, system has been arranged. When the snow flies, the tree auditors will move into the Clark County State Forest, pencils in mittens, and proceed. in this fashion: They will plot strips which will total about 10 per cent of the entire 12,000 acres. They will take a census of each tree. its kind and ap- | proximate age, in those strips. Then they will refer to records. and by mathematics will know how much of each species there is now! in excess of what there was when the records began. <i Balanced against this will be the | humber of species sown since the! State took the forest over and they will arrive at how many board feet | are interest and can be cut next | year. That's modern forestry for you— | run like a bank. The interest which | will be cut next vear will be sold | and the proceeds will be a profit to] the State. The Clark County Forest was the! first acquired by the State, and many thousands of trees have been sown there. |

NEGROES TO GET CAA AIR TRAINING HERE

An Indiana Civilian Aviation Au-| thority class for flight instruction to Negroes will be established in! Indianapolis in the near future. Neither a definite time nor place of registration has been set,!

but Henry E. Ostrom, co-chairman of the local CAA board, said today! some action should be taken within | the next two weeks. Mr. Ostrom outlined plans for the! new flight at a meeting of the Fed- | eration of Associated Clubs at the Indiana World War Memorial. | Mr. Ostrom promised the use of] hic own airplane if necessary and | said that, ‘‘the colored people of Indianapolis will not only have an opportunity to prove their worth. | but will also have sympathetic cooperation.”
