Times Special CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind, Oct. 17.—Preparations for the renewal of the 56-year-old football feud between the Little Giants of Wabash and the Bulldogs of Butler in the home-coming game this Saturday
at Crawfordsville, were continued with increased activity the past few days in the Wabash camp. Although wind and rain made practice conditions bad early in the week, both Vaughan and Line Coach Mel® Brewer, sensing a chance for an upset against the Butler crew, scrimmaged the entire squad against the frosh team. Backfield blocking and. down-field coverage of punts was also given attention by the mentors during the week's practice sessions. Injuries, which to date have not slowed the Little Giants, are still below average. Only two players, -Marty Quinn, senior quarterback from East Chicago, Ind., and John Brewer, guard from Auroa, Ill, received injuries in the Earlham tilt last week. Both of them, however, will be ready for action by game time Saturday. The rest of the forward wall that will probably start consists of Charles Lookabill and Carl Kelley, ends; Bob Powers and Tom Ryan, tackles; Bob Phillips, center, and Steve Gineris at the other guard post. Bud Pack, left half back; Walter Grey, right ‘haif back, and Earl Dowd, fullback, probably will compose the starting backfield with Quinn or George Wilson at quarterback.

to tear Wabash to pieces Saturday at Crawfordsville. From the practice field, the Bulldogs could see a white “rag” flag centered with a red W atop the flag pole at the south end of the Bowl.
But the flag was only one of many scarlet painted W’s branded upon the university's campus. Etched upon the corner sidewalk of Arthur Jordan Memorial Hall was another huge red W. Others were found on the sidewalk leading to the university cafeteria as well as the cafeteria itself. ‘Save It, Says Rabold
The bit of scarlet art was done late Tuesday night (allegedly by Wabash marauders) and led yesterday’s after-practice locker-room chatter to go this way: “We should go en masse to Crawfordsville,” someone said. : “Save it,” John Rabold, 250-pound tackle added,” we'll massacre ’em, Saturday.” : But before game time Saturday, there probably will be a share of blue B’s sprinkled about the Wabash campus. | Letting the Wabash art take its own course, Coach Tony Hinkle today concluded heavy preparations for the Little Giants and intimated that this week's shake-up may end in a new backfield lineup. Abts Is Sidelined
Henry Abts, regular fullback, has been sidelined with a bad knee and Little Ralph Swager, a halfback, has been pushed up into the blocking position with Elwood Norris, a hard driving ball carrier, taking over Abts’ position. Charles Metzelaars, Mattoon, Ill., sophomore, and Harold Feichter, Ft. Wayne, senior, probably will complete the backfield as halfbacks. Yesterday the Bulldogs strengthened their offense by running 70 plays in scrimmage against the freshman who open their two-game schedule tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock against DePauw University's rhinies in the Bow]
Print Trouble
Times Special BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 17— Backfield injuries remained Coach Bo McMillin’s big headache today as the Hoosiers neared the end of preparation for their home-coming football game here Saturday against Iowa's Hawkeyes. ; Harry (Tuffy) Brooks came back to the squad yesterday after a twoweek layoff but suffered a recurrence of an old ankle injury. Earl Doloway also was slowed by a foot injury. Meanwhile, Graham Martin, senior tackle from Indianapolis, lashed back at an anonymous critic of the team in a letter published in the Indiana Daily Student. “We know that the student body desires a winning football team,” Martin wrote, “what do you think about the senior football players who have been working incessantly, praying and hoping for that championship ever since we were freshmen? “We have been a bad luck team, but we are going to make our breaks . + « We will win not one but a majority of our scheduled games.”
Farley-Yankee Deal Is ‘Progressing’
NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (U. P).— Jeremiah T. Mahoney, attorney for the former postmaster general, James ‘A. Farley, said today that “progress is being made daily” toward purchase of the New York Yankee baseball club by a syndicate headed by Farley. Mahoney vigorously denied a report that the war has made money scarce and put a temporary crimp in Farley's efforts to purchase the
club.
