‘BUCKLE DOWN, SALESMEN TOLD

~ Selling One of Basic Keys to Improvement, Plymouth Official Says.

Improvement in economic conditions must be built on a foundation of substantial sales, Harry G. Moock vice president of the Plymouth Division of the Chrysler Corp., said here today. Speaking at a luncheon of the Indianapolis Advertising Club in the Indianapolis Athletic Club, Mr. Moock urged salesmen to “buckle down and sell if you want to help maintain the present rate of industrial activity.” “This country would not have suffered the loss of more than one hundred billions of dollars in wages

" and salaries,” he said, “if selling,

along with other important factors, had been at or near normal throughout the last 10 years.” The motor executive said that “high-pressure” salesmanship and the days of the “super-salesmen” are over. “Successful selling today,” he said, “is merely helping the purchaser to _ buy wisely the things he wants and needs most at a price he can afford to pay.” . Mr. Moock said that new markets for American products must be created in America. He urged effective advertising to help create and maintain the new markets.

National Realtor Head Calls on Hoosiers To Mobilize Housing for Defense Workers

By DAVID MARSHALL Times Staff Writer

FT. Wayne, Oct. 10. — Newton || #8

C. Farr, president of the National Association of Real Estate Boards, this afternoon called upon Indiana relators to make “unmistakably clear” what they were “ready and able to do at this critical time to provide housing for defense work-| ers.” He also said the National Association “is asking, emphatically, that by action of Congress older houses be put on a parity with new houses in respect to their eligibility for FHA mortgage insurance.” The noted realtor was the keynote speaker at the opening session

of the 27th annual convention of | the Indiana Real Estate Association. |

He said that private industry must meet the responsibility for providing housing for defense workers “if emergency housing is to be provided without unnecessary distortion of our national economy.”

Co-operation Is Urged

He urged realtors and real estate boards to take “the leadership in making available both sound existing housing and usable existing industrial and warehouse space and in developing new housing so that “there may be a minimum of need for direct government building, a minimum of the consequent weakening of the private industrial structure and a minimum of economic ‘loss.” “USHA housing,” he warned,] “should not be extended to serve people who are to be employed in national defense industries at good wages and who can pay normal rents or buy their own homes.” He said that well selected real estate in the conditions the nation now faces is a good form of investment for capital and should continue to be so during the ups and downs that may be ahead. “Real estate is in a particularly good position by reason of its nonliquid condition to avoid rapid fluctuations in market value, many of which are based on mental attitudes and hunches,” he continued. ing for the last 18 years, he said comparatively little industrial expansion will occur, except for plants to make ammunition, armor plate and chemicals and to build some essential materials like airplanes, ships and tanks. There would be, however, an active demand for warehouse properties in virtually all manufacturing and distributing centers, he concluded. Mr. Farr was to be followed by John W. Galbreath, vice president of the national association for the Great Lakes region! (which includes Indiana), wha was to discuss real estate’s future. William B. F. Hall, the final afternoon speaker, was to discuss “Low-Cost Housing Without Additional Cost to Taxpayers.” - Mr: Hall, vice president and manager of mortgage loans of the Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. devised the novel Ft. Wayne low-cost housing project which will re-house the same family in a new house, in the same location, at the same rent without additional cost to the taxpayer. } At the annual banquet tonight
