Purdue Maps Air Drive On Michigan State

Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind., Oct. 10.—Purdue University’s football team, carrying plans for a vigorous aerial attack, was to depart this afternoon

for Lansing, Mich. where it will tackle Michigan State Saturday. A light drill to work out the boys’ kinks was scheduled before train time, and a similar session is scheduled tomorrow at Lansing. Passing received the most emphasis in yesterday's final heavy workouts, with five Boilermaker backs doing the tossing The pitchers were Mike Byelene, John Galvin, Marion (Red) Carter, Bryan Brock and Frank Fijala. At the same time Coach Mal Elward' reminded his pigskinners of the Spartans’ own aerial game which was responsible for two touchdowns against the Harmonites, otherwise known as Michigan.

Vitt’s Charges Bring Denial

CLEVELAND, Oct. 10 (U. P.).— Charges by Oscar Vitt that the front office had interfered with his management of the Cleveland Indians this season has brought a denial by C. C. Slapnicka, the club’s vice president. -Vitt, in Oakland, Cal., complained recently that on one instance a Cleveland team member appeared on the field in uniform despite the fact that Vitt had suspended him the day previous. Slapnicka said that the player, Jeff Heath, had been called into the front office on Vitt's suggestion after the suspension and that Heath had, offered to apologize. The Indians’ president, Alva Bradley, also has denied Vitt’s charges.

Bowling

True to the Wednesday rule, Indianapolis League bowlers dominated the picture last night and high among them and the city, for that matter, was Oscar Behrens. The veteran Behrens had a 690, closely followed by Johnny Fehr with a 681. The “shooting stars”:

DePauw Lineup

May Be Juggled

Times Special GREENCASTLE, Ind., Oct. 10.— Word from the rival football camps indicates that Saturday’s tussle between DePauw and Franklin will be a match of the former’s offensive power against the latter’s defensive strength. Coach Raymond Neal of the Tigers, apparently displeased with the team’s showing in drills this week, likely will juggle his backfield and start a combination of John Long, quarter; Ed Snider and Colin Higgins, halves, and Bob Nelson, fullback. ~ At Franklin Coach Roy Tillotson continued to put the emphasis on defensive formations and promised “we won't be outfought.”
