JANE JORDAN

DEAR JANE JORDAN—For the first time in my life I am desperately, miserably in iove, and with a man whom I cannot have. Perhaps I should explain that I have been married and divorced. We both realize that marriage is impossible for us although he, too, is unmarried. In spite of the fact that I know the affair is hopeless I just cannot find the courage to give him up. All of my life I have been gay and friendly and always have had a hosf of men friends. Perhaps 1've been too popular, too fond of good times. Anyway it is now causing my sweetheart and I to quarrel and argue constantly. T like to go out a lot and he absolutely refuses to go out with me. This hurts my pride for other men I know always have been glad to go out with me. Now I go alone and when I see him next, we argue, Lven a friendly conversation with men I know causes him to accuse me of the lowest conduct. I have more reason to be jealous than he ‘has for lils former sweetheart often calls on him. I seldom complain of this to him. My pride won't let me, and I do loathe jealousy. I feel that I cannot live without him, yet our constant quarreling is making me irritable and nervous and causing me intense mental

anguish

I've thought of marrying someone else. More than one man has

sed to me since my divorce. But the idea is distasteful. I love h, I adore him so blindly. Is there any solution to ’ . SUZANNE.

propo this naan so muc such problems? . = : Sos : r—I'd feel a lot more intelligent about your situation if 1 { knew why you assume you can’t marry when you're both free, white - gnd 21. Why is marriage impossible between you? Perhaps it is, put the reason still ‘has an important bearing on your problem. : For example, you may be tied down by family responsibilities, ch as ill and indigent parents, from which there is no present sue e. That, of course, doesn’t mean that there never will be an gscane. The outlook may ke dark but not hopeless. gl again you may have fallen in love with a man who doesn’t want 10 get married. He might change his mind. Many men have. d if he doesn’t change his mind one wonders why you put up with ane an attitude unless you're convinced you can’t do any better. A aan in love expects the man who loves her to assume a responattitude toward her, and if he refuses to do so she doesn’t waste o h time agonizing over him. Some pangs of grief and disappointI are inevitable, but she is too proud to prolong her pain. She Den an end to it by a determined effort to interest herself in somePing more worth while. : : You don’t get on with the man. ‘He won't allow his name to be linked with yours socially; yet he is jealous when you find diversion ' elsewhere. Why do you accept such a situation. when it isn't what Pe want at all? It almost seems that you are punishing yourself I something you ‘hold against yourself. No woman stays on the
