JANE JORDAN

DEAR JANE JORDAN—A girl who used to be my friend is trying to come between my parents. She is a dew years older than I am. After I really got to know her I marked her off my list. She is too thick with one fellow here in my town, but that isn't enough. She always 1s trying to lure other men to her. Should I stand by and see my home utterly ruined because of her, ar take a hand myself? She is so bold in her doings that everybody knows what she is and all she does. What do you think I should do about it? Or do you have any advice to give either of my parents? I will be more than grateful for an early reply. ? : JUST ME.

Answer—This 1s your parents’ problem and there isn’t much you can do about it. The smartest thing you can do is to keep out of it. You don’t have to be friends with the girl any more since you don’t like her quite aside from the fact that she annoys you by flirting with your father. You don’t have to provide her with opportunities to come to your house. But after all, it is not up to a daughter to reverse the order of the’ generations by treating her parents like irresponsible children. Let them settle their own affairs. Just how serious is this problem, I wonder? . Your father is mildly attracted to a girl the age of his own daughter. It wouldn't surprise me if you aren't a little bit jealous and I can’t say that I blame you. Why don’t you win your father back to your side by

showing him a lot of daughterly attention? Maybe it’s your love he

really craves instead of your girl friend's favor. Since you joined your mother’s team and regard him as a culprit, you leave him wide ‘open to the machinations of.a substitute daughter. What can this girl do to ruin your home besides making your father seem a’ little ridiculous? She doesn't want an old married man permanently when she’s so successful in vamping boys her own age. She simply wants to upset you and your mother. Perhaps she has a mother and sister of her own whom she always has regarded as rivals, and whenever she finds a similar combination of women against her she fights with weapons more foul than fair. Are you going to give her the satisfaction of witnessing her own success? Think how she would enjoy a scene! : If I were you I'd just sit tight and look unruffled. Instead of leaving Father out in the cold, you and your mother should play up to his vanity and make him feel like an important figure in your family. Now that you see how gullible he is, you know it doesn’t take much to please him. JANE JORDAN.
