Dental C
Sponsored By Sorority
Bobby has an awful toothache. ‘The fact is he has been crying all ‘night. But the family budget is so small that things like dental bills never were included. .So Bobby goes off to school and there the school nurse hears about it. She arranges for Bobby to “get it fixed.” That is if Bobby attends Schools 51, 73 or 69, one does. For needy {children at those schools are being cared for in a dental clinic at the Northeast Community Center. Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority is giving a dinner tonight at the Center for those who have donated services to the sorority-sponsored dental clinic. In May, the sorority bought- a

plies and placed them on the second floor of the Center's main building. They enlisted the aid of four community dentists, Dr. James M. Davis, Dr. C. E. Nichols, Dr. V. H. Gregg and Dr. W. W. Gainey, who donate their services in turns on Wednesday mornings from 9 a. m. to noon. They already have treated 147 children. The children are selected by school nurses or from the nursery school at the Center by a supeivisor. The clinic cares for extractions, fillings and cleanings. - As many as eight children are handled in cne morning. ; The sorority members assist three at a time with the work. One serves as the dental assistant, another cares for the waiting children and a third cares for the records on work done and future cases. One of the sorority workers remarked that the youngsters “behaved much better in the dentist's chair than those who were more privileged.” This clinic is the heginning of a larger project of the sorority—a Health Bureau at the Center. They (are working toward funds to pro- | vide equipment for other medical treatment. Already a large examination table, chair and two cabinets fill another corner of the room. There a doctor and nurse from the Public Health Department give vaccinations, tuberculin tests, etc. So far it is just a “dream” but the members hope in time to have a Health Bureau which will serve adults as well as children.
