There were only 51 accidents per day on the 10,000 miles of State highways during the peak traffic months of July and August, according to T. A. Dicus, Highway. Commission chairman. One-third of these were on the 400 miles of highways which are maintained through cities of over 3500 population. On highways outside this group of cities, there was an average of one accident to 4.6 miles of road as compared to an average of 2.5 accidents per mile on city streets.
