FBI Releases Alien to California; Kept Under Heavy Guard.

REDWOOD CITY, Cal. Sept. 26 (U. P.).—Under heavy guard, sullen Wilhelm Jakob Muhlenbroich, 40- | year-old German alien, waited today in San Mateo County jail for a grand jury to indict him on charges of kidnaping 3-year-old Marc de Tristan AJr., for $100.000 ransom. Elaborate precautions had been taken to forestall mob violence. The FBI turned him over to county authorities late last night. : He was spirited over back county roads in a fast automobile from

San Francisco to Redwood City and secretly brought into jail.

CIRCUS MAY SHIFT WINTER QUARTERS

ROCHESTER, Ind, Sept. 26 (U.J.

P.).—The Indiana Circus Corp., operators of the Cole Bros. circus and the Clyde Beatty shows, may abandon Rochester as the site of its winter quarters this year, it was indicated today. The circus was Arr by a disastrous fire while in winter quarters here last February and more than 150 sideshow and performing animals were destroyed. Lack of sufficient capital to rebuild may force the show to move to another city for winter quarters according to Zack Terrell, president of the corporation. He said several locations were being considered. He indicated that any new site would be in the Midwest, within reach of large Midwestern cities where the show had winter circus dates. Winter quarters here ‘were owned by a group of local businessmen for the last two years. It \was understood that they offered Mr. Terrell two arrangements whereby the circus could acquire title to the winter quarters.

Policeman, Turned Robber,

Ends Life

CHICAGO, Sept. 26 (U. P.).— Thaddeus Cullinane had been a policeman 19 years: therefore he refused to shoot it.out with policemen when he turned robber and was trapped in an alley. Instead, he killed himself. The late Police Lieut. Timothy Cullinane was proud when his son, Thaddeus, joined the force in May, 1924. Thaddeus was cited for bravery in action against criminals in 1931. He got another citation the next year. In 1933 he was made a sergeant. For three years he was a good sergeant. Then, for some reason unknown, he began to drink heavily. He beat up his wife and failed to report for duty. * Suspended for intoxication, he followed his wife to the hospital and terrorized attendants by firing a bullet: into the wall of her room. He was thrown in jail and fined 30 days pay, but the police commission recommended reinstatement because of his record. But the of-

One entered the tavern and the gunman fled through a side door into the alley, the officer in pursuit. Another officer confronted the robber in the alley. Trapped . . . Cullinane faced three alternatives. He could surrender and live in disgrace; he could shoot it out, killing one or more of his former comrades, and escape. But he chose the third. He put his 45 caliber automatic against his temple and pulled the trigger.

In some years, some cars take a big jump ahead. The Ford does that for 1941. It has jumped ahead in size. It’s the biggest Ford we've ever built, inside and out. It’s wider. It has a longer wheel-
