A DINNER CANCE OCT. 18 at the Indianapolis Athletic Club will be the opening event on the schedule off Junior Assembly dances for the coming season. - Other dates appearing on the schedule include a } program dance Nov. 8 at the American United Life Insurance Building. Mrs. William Fuller, Shelbyville, Ind., entertained yesterday at the Blue River Country Club in Shelbyville with a tea in honor of her granddaughter, Miss Patricia DePrez. Civic to Give Awards AN ADDITIONAL CIVIC CONTRIBUTION of the Civic Theater is the new merit scholarship awards to be gen to students of advanced high school age. These awards of theater admissions and free membership in the theater's Workshop will be made during the Civic's current membership drive which continues through Friday. - Twenty-five books will be apportioned into 50 memberships to students chosen because of their dramatic interest, ability and need. E. Edward Green. chairman of the project, explained that the awards are being made because the theater board feels that, there are rjumerous students who can’t afford a theater membership but need and want the training offered by the experience of attending the theater and taking part in the Workshop program. The Workshop's eight monthly meetings, in addition to ine struction and experience in ‘the various theater arts. will present three lectures on the theater, reviews of outstanding books on the theater and open forums on the different hranches of dramatic art. The winners of the scholarships also will have the opportunity of acting in, directing or staging one-act plavs to be presented by the Workshop.
