Take the case of John Doe. He owns a factory employing 500 workmen engaged in the manufacture of novelties. Bevin and the -other members of the production triumvirate may decide that Doe's factorv is wanted for more important work. In this case, Doe's business would be liquidated, the factory turned over to the production of , goods ; more essential to the war effgrt. the 500- factory hands assigned to other work, perhaps in the same district, perhaps far from their homes, and Doe himself given a job where his experience | and ability may best serve the nation.

Must Obey Government

Both Doe and his former employees must perform the services which the Government assigns to] them. and must work for wages which are customary in the line of work they are called upon to do. In the case of hardship, the Government may decide to grant some immediate compensation, but in general dll claims will be postponed until the end of the war. For the job, of mobilizing Britain's .army of workers, it was generally conceded that no man was better qualified than Bevin. Having devoted his life to trades unionism, and for many years the most powerful single figure in the British labor movement, Bevin has a vast experience in handling men. and, more - important still, the unions have unlimited confidence in Bevin. Bevin'’s convictions led him tof clash several times with the man wader whose premiership he serves
