Here Learning How to Trim
Sails During Stock Market Doldrums
By ROGER BUDROW
AFTER 10 YEARS OF
ups and downs in the stock
market, Indianapolis brokers are learning to take such days
as yesterday (when a mere 2' their stride.

tomer got an itemized statem in return. To keep going, brokers are skimping on business luxuries, such as $30-a-month investment guides —Poor’s, Fitches—and direct wires to New York. One broker who had 10 bookkeepers in ’29 row employs one. Many give their employees a week oft each month—without pay.
After a drastic slump in stock prices, brokers immediately cut] down on their staff and other expenses—knowing that it takes som: time for the public to regain its confidence and start buying again. Theoretically the present doldrums offer a good opportunity for customers’ men to study their clients’ accounts, advise which stocks to unload and which ones to buy.

"GOOD MUSIC"
By James Thrasher
Unwilling to be content and take things as they come, I must worry myself sick over the commuting problems which will confront Izler| Solomon in two weeks, unless something happens soon. Mr. Solomon, the young Chicago | conductor, is to begin a new CBS |series and end an NBC series of three guest appearances on the| same day. At 3 p. m. on that date | he is to open the sponsored series| of the Chicago Women’s Symphony Orchestra with a concert in the Toledo Museum of Art. And three
hours later he is booked to lead the| NBC Orchestra in a broadcast from | New York. It just doesn't add up. series.” ” ” ” Did you know that Fritz Kreisler, in addition to writing any number of violin concert pieces under a va= [riety of names, was the composer lof a string quartet? Well, don't feel too badly, for most of the rest of us didn’t know it either. But tomorrow you may hear it for yourself when the Radio | City Music Hall Quartet plays 1t lon NBC-WLW at 10 a. m. Here's what the Radio City publicity department has to say about ae 20-year-old work: “A string quartet in four movements, it is written in the characteristically Kreislerian Viennese manner. Although it makes no attempt at profundity the quartet, like so many of the violin pieces by Kreisler, abounds in graceful, stir ring melody. “In mood it ranges from the singularly moving sadness of the first movement to the mischievous | music of the finale in the style of a | Czech polka. While in the lively scherzo, Kreisler cleverly includes a
