“HOPE TO HEAL SOME WOUNDS
‘They're Going to Muncie to Cure Disappointment of
{
By DAVID MARSHALL
Members of the Indiana Gas Model Association hope to cure a Imonth-old case of disappointment next Sunday. That's the day \for the Muncie {Gas Hawks’ meet which was post-| fponed from Aug. 18. The term “postponement” is one eof generosity since there were some strange goings on Aug. 18 much to the sur- | prise of the local pilots. The meet that day opened at 10 a. m. At 1 o'clock it began to rain| | after more than a dozen flights had | | officially been completed. Among | [them was a 15-minute flight of] James Bennett Sr. That was the] time caught by competent Indianapolis observors. However, the Muncie timer's watch showed 2': minutes. That timer said the watch had stopped, but said he could not allow more than the time it showed. Mr. Bennett's son alse had a flight of nearly eight minutes. Somehow the Muncie timer began clocking Jim Jr's ship and then followed the flight of another ship which landed a few minutes later. Even when this was pointed out to the clock watcher he refused to permit another flight nor would he make any correction. | Then at 1 p. m. when the rain began to fall officials of the meet said it was “postponed” until next Sundav, despite the general practice of all model meets that a contest is “official” after one flight has been | | timed. {
‘Local Planes Win
Both the weather and results were perfect for the locals at last Sun- | day's Bloomington contest sponsored {by that city’s Recreation Center and the Southern Exchange Club. It was a perfect day with many 'thermals. Indianapolis fliers took the first three places in this order: Mr. Bennett, Ray Neese and William Keough. Mr. Bennett's Class C ship of his own design powered with an Ohlsson “60” was up for more than 15 minutes and in sight 10 minutes. It traveled about 10 miles. Mr. Neese's Class C Senior Playboy caught a nice thermal and soared for nearly eight miles.
Flight Movies Shown
At the Cropsey Auditorium meeting last night, the Model Maniacs of Noblesville showed movies of the meet held at Noblesville Aug. 4.
Chicago Results Given
There never has been a proper recapitulation of what the local fliers did at the 1940 National meet in Chicago largelv because the contest was so large it took some time to okay the records. Two of the Indianapolis pilots did very well Jim Cahill, the Purdue University student, tied for fifth place in the national championship standings with 150 points. Now that may sound far down on the list, but Champion George Sass Jr. of Detroit won with only 200 points. Mr. Cahill was second in the open class indoor cabin event, flying his ship for a total time of a little over 14 minutes, just one minute behind the first place winner. For this he won the Whitfield Paper Co. trophy. Mr. Cahill also was second in the cpen indoor stick event and won the Svncro B-30 Motor Comet Award His time total was 16 minutes 47 seconds—45.8 seconds

Every day more happy public statements praising Retonga are received from well Known men and women who want to tell others of the splendid relief this purely vegetable gastric tonic brought to them. For instance, Mrs. Eva Guyette, Apt. 3, Gaylord Annex, 522 Ogden St., Indianapolis, a member of the Druids, a past officer of Pocahontas Council No. 1, of the Red Men, and a widely-known life-time resident of this city, tells of her happy experience with Retonga in the following eful statement: “M3 ite failed managed to eat seemed form £as In mam
