IF COMMUNISTS OFFER TICKET

Election Board Must Then Act on Pleas to Deny Place on Ballot.

By EARL RICHERT right of the Communist to place in the names of its candidates on the November ballot is certain to become a hotly-con-tested issue in Indiana next month, if the Communist Party asks for that right. Although the State Board of Election Commissioners has not yet been notified whether the Communist Party will seek to place a list of candidates on the ballot, the Board already has received scores of petitions asking that it be denied this privilege. Thus, if the Communist Party does file a list of candidates for inclusion on the ballot, the Board will be forced to rule on the petitions for their rejection. No Protest in 1936 And nearly all the petitions have been filed by chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and by posts of the American Legion and its auxiliary, both politically potent organizations. The Communist Party and all other parties who do not hold conventions have until 30 days before the election to file a petition with the Election Board asking that the names of ‘heir candidates be placed on the ballot,
