Dizzy Bumped For 14 Hits
DALLAS, Tex, Aug. 28 (U. P).—|
Dizzy Dean, the one-time major league pitching star and “orator,”
received the news vesterday that the Chicago Cubs were recalling him from Tulsa, where he was sent in
the hope the warmer climate ous A
aid his ailing arm.
“The old arm is as good as it ever
said Diz. “I got all my stuil.” Last night Dean pitched against Dallas and allowed 14 hits while being beaten 9 to 5. It was the first Dallas victory in 10 games.

WARM OR COOL BEDS INVENTED
Buffalo Men Claim Also to. Have Made Chairs That | Are Never Too Chilly.
BUFFALO, N. Y., Aug. 29 (U. P))./| Invention of temperature-controlled beds and chairs was announced to-| day by W. A. Brenner and Eugene L. Barnes. “But,” Mr. Brenner 3aid, “this sudden cool snap came just when| we set up our demonstration, and | convinced us that it also will be a boon in winter for the apparatus] is equally capable of warming beds.” Mr. Brenner explained the new device operates differently than the “air-conditioned” bed which was) announced at the University of | Washington last July by Dr. F. K.| Kirsten, aeronautical engineer. “Temperature-controlled beds and | chairs operate through bodily con- | tact with a pad containing rubber | tubes through which water flows,” | Mr. Brenner said. “Other equip-| ment consists of a radiator-like| device which fits behind the head-| board, a thermostat by which tem-| perature may be regulated and a] water-pressure reducing unit which can be fitted by a plumber to the nearest water pipe.” The water, piped to and from the bed by rubber tubes, is warmed by room temperature as it flows through the radiator fins. It circulates through the pad which covers the mattress, and then passes through a temperature-regulating device into the outlet pipe. Pad temperature is regulated to the desired degree by a bedside knob which controls the rate of water flow or the length of time the water is exposed to room temperature. The thermostat then keeps the water at the desired tempera-
ture.
