Horses Owned by Local Residents Win Honors at Ft. Wayne Show
Indianapolis-owned horses moved in on the I, Wavne Horse Show this week-end and moved oft with a sizable number of premiums to add to their owners’ collections, The 10th annual I't. Wayne Charity Horse Show was held Saturday and yesterday in the tree-bordered ring at Covington Manor, country estate of Mr. and Mrs, John A. Berghoff, 10 miles west of Ft. Wayne.
Approximately 100 entries from Midwest stables offered stift competition to the local stock. Among them was a United States Army jumping team which came from the R. O. T. detachment at Michigan State College, Bast Lansing, Mich. Riding with the team was Private Joe Lee, a member of the American Olympic jumping team in 1937 The show opened with a grand entry lead by I. I. Newman ot Ft. Wayne driving an 18-passenger early American road coach with a four-in-hand hitch. The coach, a brilliant vellow-and=black paint job named the “Bumble Bee.” was complete, even to an individual tooting valiantly on a coach horn, although his previous experience with horns was limited to a trumpet in the Shrine band. Silas Messer rode Mr. and Mrs. A, Hastings Fiske's “Patience Rewarded” to three firsts at the show, The horse, a post entry, led in the three-gaited saddle horse under 15.2 hands and the combination three-gaited saddle horse classifications and made a clean sweep of Saturday night's show by winning the three-gaited $250 stake,
John B. Stokely Attends John B. Stokelv was on hand to watch Mrs, Stokely show “Best Ie Sou.” The horse placed first in the green hunter class; fourth in the Corinthian class; sixth in the $250 hunter stake, and, paired with Mrs. William E. Munk's “Mt. Adam,” took third place in the pairs of hunters class The Corinthian class was one of the colorful features of Sunday's show and one in which Indianapolis horses took chief honors, It was ridden over an outside hunting course and hunting attire or military uniform was required of the riders William H. Wemmer rode in the scarlet coat he wears with the Traders’ Point Hunt here and Mrs. Munk and Mrs. Stokely wore the Hunt colors of burgundy and robin's egg blue on their collars Mrs. Munk rode “Mt. Adam’ te first place in this class. Mrs Wemmer placed second with “Hector.” Mr. Wemmer on “Mr, Somebody’ was third, and Mrs. Stokely with “Best Te Sou” was fourth ‘Mt. Adath.”’ with Mrs. Munk up, was third in the handy hunter class and also in the hunters under saddle class. And to top off a successful showing, the horse took first in the $250 hunter stake ves terday The Wemmer's “Hector” and “Mi second in hunters under saddle and first and fourth among model hunters. Their “Top Flight” was the reserve winner ih the $250 hunter stake and, with “Mr, Somebody,” placed first in the pairs of hunters class.
Dr. Bonham Was Exhibitor Dr. P. O. Bonham was another successful local exhibitor yesterday, placing fourth with “Sparr” in the $250 jumpers stake, and with Mrs. Hubert Thomas “Chinchilla.” “Doe” also rode with Mrs. Munk on “Flan” to fourth place in the pairs of

Among Indianapolis spectators ‘were Mr. and Mrs, August C. Bohlen and their son, Bob The show Wavne Horse Club Saturday approximately 250 horseshoe table Among numerous private parties was ah informal garden party given vesterday after the show by Mr and Mrs Berghoff at their home and a breakfast for exhibitors vesterdayv morning at the Country Club given by Joseph Hutzell and Misses Mary and Irma Hutzell

ANXTOUS Answer-Of two evils choose the lesser. At 16 no girl can attord to let an irresponsible bov think he owns her. If once he gets this idea in his head the chances are that he will drop vou like a hot cake and then vou'll feel worse than if vou quit him of your own free will and accord 1 know of no wav in which vou ean restore vour relationship to its former casual basis unless the voung man actuaily thinks enough of vou to be chastened by an out-and-out turn-down. Sometimss this works and sometimes it doesn’t. I have seen boys come back humbled and ready to behave after a girl kicked them out of the house, and I've seen them accept the ultimatum with a laugh. No matter what vou do, vou stand to lose him in the end, tor so voung a lad has no idea of permanence. You'll feal a lot better about it all if vou have no guilty memories; so just brace yourself for the task and get rid of him, » » » » » ”»
DFAR JANY JORDAN--T am: almost 19 and have never had a date. The voung men teil me I'm a lot of fun bat that's about as far as it goes because I am very much overweight While attending business college 1 met two voung men, one 20 and the other 21. I like both very much. They say they like me bug since several of the other boys and girls have be>n teasing them, they just joke about it At the present I've dropped them saving that T am breaking their hearts at all or if they are making fun of me do with them or what?
Now they are joking and 1 don’t know if they like me Should I have nothing to
MMW to learn to count vour calories until vou have regained vour normal weight. Cruel as it is, it still is true that fat girls are made the brunt of many jokes, and ridicule is hard to take. I do not sav that no fat girl ever gets a beau for this is not true, but overweight is a decided handicap to popularity Most voung men fall in love with their eves, and while a few curves are not to be despised, few bovs have the courage to court a fat girl, no matter how entertaining she is, because their frienas make fun of them, as vou have seen Why don’t vou rid vourself of this embarrassment hv following a safe and sane program of diet and exercise? If vou had =a passable figure you wouldn't suffer for fear vour friends were secretly laughing at you. Besides, normal weight is better for vour health JANE JORDAN

CHICKEN, mashed potatoes and ice cream are said to be the American symbols for "big eats” on Sunday. Chicken, either roasted, fried, broiled or fricasseed, seems to stand for success and high life in the average American home. However, a recent study of what the average family likes to eat shows that roast beef, baked cured ham, fresh ham, leg or shoulder of lamb and leg or shoulder of veal also appear with regularity in the average American home on Sunday, Rowena S. Carpenter, associate home economist, and Hazel K. Stiebeling, senior food economist, Economics Division, Bureau of Home Economics, have worked out three Sunday dinner menus: 1. (For family on liberal diet): Roast chicken with savory stuffing, baked yams for sweet potatoes), creamed asparagus (or other creamed vegetables), head lettuce salad, ice cream with strawberry preserves, milk for children 2. (For family on a moderate-cost adequate diet): Stewed chicken with rice, green beans, hot biscuits, ice cream with fruit sauce, milk for children, coffee for adults 3. (For family on minimum-cost adequate diet): Shoulder pork chops, candied sweet potatoes, creamed spinach, bread and butter, sliced bananas, milk for children, tea or coffee for adults.
